Antique Doors and Fun Finds

The Woods and Ivy Cottage is supposed to be started this week!   ????????  I want each new structure on the property to look like it’s been there forever.  This includes the inside of the house as well as the cottage.  They will both have old doors, antique lighting, and the wider trim made to look old.  I am toying with the idea of some vertical shiplap or wallpaper on a few of the walls.  Deb keeps saying that she will have the fanciest workshop there was ever built once we get our REAL house built.  Which makes me so happy.  She deserves a fancy workshop.

Anyway… we have had our eyes peeled for two matching antique doors for the closet in the cottage.  Since this is a temporary living space, it won’t have a walk-in closet.  We did something really fun and way more functional at our tiny house when we lived there and want to do the same in the cottage.  We replaced the two overlapping sliding closet doors with two doors on hinges.  It allows us to see the entire closet at one time when we have both doors open.

These doors popped up on Craigslist this morning.  I immediately contacted the owner.

Antique Doors and Fun Finds

We took a little road trip this morning to pick up this set of doors.  He said they were taken out of his church that was originally built in 1902.  How cool will these be as closet doors?  ????  I think I will either cut mirrors for the top glass OR create an antique mirrored look like we did on a few doors in our old house.  Having two hinged doors on our closet will be so much more practical for us.  And these will work perfectly.  He happened to have the third one exactly like it, so we grabbed that one as well.  It will be installed for the actual bedroom door.

Other Fun Finds

His garage was FULL of treasures.  He gets items leftover from estate sales and sells them during the 127 garage sales in the summer.  He had lots of different antique pieces from furniture, glassware, brass items, etc.  I immediately spotted these HUGE (36″) brass antique candlesticks.  He wanted $8.00 for the pair.  Yes, please!  I think I’m going to make them look older with some Rub and Buff.  I just had to order more but I will share when I get them done.

And, Deb found this antique ceiling light.  These look so cute in pantries.  Or it would actually work in our master closet.  Who knows where it will end up, but it was only $5.00.

I love to share my antique finds with you.  I hope that it gives you your own ideas when you are out and about looking for treasures.

Stay tuned for all of the upcoming projects.  I am so excited to get it all started!

  • Eeeeek I’m so happy for you both! I love ur finds. I’ve always wanted old doors put in wherever I’ve lived...our decor choices are really very close! You have collected way more then I ever had the option too! My opinion that wasntcasjed for...leave all three doors as is! If u must change try finding old, aged glass to have cut to fit. Love them as they were meant to be! Those large candle holders are amazing. Can’t wait to see what u do with and to them. Aging sounds great! Love the overhead light too.

I am so happy for Deb and her new, special, best anywhere workshop, and how happy u are for her! Such love!

    • Awww. thanks.. I'm so thrilled. And I just remembered now that you mentioned it. We have a pile of old textured glass waiting for projects. We may just used that.

  • I love to see what you guys accomplish with every post!!!! And I love even more how much fun you guys have doing it all!!!!! Thanks for sharing all the laughs. That microphone just kills me lol

  • I'm excited to see it all come together! And I'm pretty jealous of your antique finds. Wow, the prices are fantastic! Maybe next year I can go to his garage sale!

  • Love all your finds????????????. I love to vintage hunt with you❤️ Cannot wait to see the end results! So excited for you and Deb

  • I believe the candle sticks are actually alter candle sticks found in churches. I have four sets, but mine are older with more patina. Love yours!
