I am not sure if you have ever noticed our entryway coat closet. If you watch social media stories, I’m sure you have. There was a long space between the stairway and the entryway closet that was a mistake by the builder. We recently had our entryway coat closet fixed and are so happy with how it turned out. There is a reason we did this now. And here is why. But first, let’s start with a before picture of this area so you can visually see what I am talking about.
The space between the closet and the stairway was about 4′ long and a foot wide, which also made the closet 4′ long inside. It was very strange. I remember walking into the house during construction and looking at that space. And, to be honest, I wondered why it was like that but didn’t say anything. I am here to tell you that if you are building or doing any type of remodeling, make sure to stop everyone and check things out. If I would have done that, it would have caused a lot less headaches and and a lot less money for repairs.
Did we NEED to repair it? No. We could have left everything the way it was. However, we share our lives with you all. The top things we share are home decor and home projects in hopes to inspire you in some way. That space drove me NUTS. I tried everything I could do to disguise it and make it look like the rest of our home with decor, etc. But nothing worked. We are not only dealing with a small 4′ x 12″ hallway, but the angles of the stairway.
We recently added on the sunroom and used the same pine flooring in that room as what is in the rest of our home. Those needed painted. Also, the rest of the floors needed repainted which I shared in this post. While we were having the floors repainted, it only made perfect sense to fix the closet now. When the wall was shortened, the floors would need repaired and painted in that spot. As you all know, one thing always leads to another and this is a prime example.
This is how our entryway coat closet was originally supposed to look like. It not only looks better visibly, but the inside of the closet is so much more functional. There was a rod for coats and then a long hallway beyond that. It was weird and something that bothered me, as I said above. Now was the time to get this fixed.
The floors will be completely done in the next two weeks, so the fun part begins which is decorating. I am looking so forward to getting the house put back together since all of the construction. Deb and I both handle life and everything else better when we have organized and clean surroundings.

Building it's exhausting! Our last house took a year and a half. I let some things slide in an effort to keep things moving along. There was one such error I saw every day in our bathroom, so I empathize with how annoying that entryway was for you. Luckily you two are so capable and on the same page. The end result makes so much more sense, looks seamless, and is beautiful finished!
