Our Picture Light above our TV and Several Other Options

I shared our Frame TV and all of the benefits of that a few years back in this post.  We love them so much.  When they aren’t in use as a television, you can turn them into a picture.  And, you can add any type of artwork that you want.  The television comes with a handful of pictures on it already. You can purchase artwork for a few dollars which is what I normally do.  People who come into our home cannot believe these “pictures” are our televisions, which is the point of them.  We recently added some vertical boards to the family room and hung them vertically on the fireplace section.  And after that, I wanted to add a picture light above our TV to make it look EXTRA.. because we are all about the extras here in our home.

Picture Light above our TV

I had the thought of the picture light because I knew it would make our Frame TV REALLY look like a piece of artwork. But there was an issue.  There wasn’t electricity run for this so my choices were either battery operated or rechargeable ones.  Which means it would never be turned on because I would never charge it or change the batteries.  Ha!  I know myself really well.  This fact is mainly because our ceilings in this room are a bit over 10′ tall.  So to bring in an actual ladder to reach this light won’t happen except for on special occasions.

However…  there was another issue.

There is obviously electricity behind the television for that itself, but the plug on a plug-in would stick out of the wall too far for our television to lay flat.  I know Deb can do about anything and if she can’t, she can figure something out.  I found this picture light that I loved, except it was one that needed hardwired.  I asked her if she could figure a way to use it. And, of course, she could.

Deb had an idea.

The light that I picked out was the perfect size for our 55″ Frame TV. Again, it was one that needed hardwired.  So she added a plug to it by using a new extension cord turning this into a plug-in picture light.  She then added a sleek socket extension cord behind the television to keep the outlet flat.  There was one other issue.  This light would have to remain on all of the time since it didn’t have a switch to turn it off and on.  So, we added a dimmable wireless control switch with remote to the light and it worked perfectly.

So let me review!

The picture light is plugged into the dimmable wireless control switch which is plugged into the sleek socket extension cord. And, the remote works perfectly, even behind the TV, to turn this off and on and dim the light when we want.  Which by the way, the control switch will work on any dimmable plugin, including lamps, hanging chandeliers that you have plugged-in, etc.  And, it comes with a wall mount so it can be used just like a hardwired switch.

I knew Deb could figure it out.

What do you think of our EXTRA idea above the frame television. I think it adds the perfect touch.

If you want to do it the easy way, the battery operated and rechargeable ones are so simple. In our search for the one we bought, we found several that we love for really great prices.  Check them all out here.

I love this one!

  • You two are both so clever! Kudos to Deb who figured out how to make this work and kudos to you Danelle for sending us all the info so we can do this ourselves and/or make it work with other plug ins. I love how you both make every aspect of your gorgeous home even more beautiful! I just adore all your natural wood elements....your doors, your furniture, all your pieces! So inspiring, warm, inviting and beautiful!

    • I couldn't do it without Deb and vice versa. The teamwork makes this all come together. Thank you so much for the acknowledgement and appreciation! Merry Christmas!
