Our Unlacquered Brass Kitchen Faucets

It never fails… any time I share our unlacquered brass kitchen faucets on social media, I get lots of questions.  It looks very old and worn.  And since this is a new home, I think it catches people’s attention.  I wanted to share our kitchen faucets today but I wanted to share a little story about them as well.

But first…..

What is unlacquered brass?

Unlacquered brass is brass that has no protective coating, which means that over time, the brass will darken and patina and start to look worn.  It can be polished back up to be shiny or left to age.

Our Unlacquered Brass Kitchen Faucets

When we were in the planning stages of our new home, I had a good idea of what I wanted everything to look like.  I knew that I wanted gold tones to all of our hardware and faucets, etc.  We were fortunate because we found a builder who let us work with different brands, which is what we do for a living.  Therefore, we didn’t have to go through him for everything like most new home builds.

I found a gold faucet that I loved so I grabbed it.  It was gorgeous.  Several months went by, and I saw a picture of an unlacquered brass kitchen faucet and I fell head over heals in love.  My style is antique and vintage items mixed with a little bling.  I also love the worn and very loved look.  This kitchen faucet was pretty much all of those things mixed together.  So I decided to forget about the faucet that I already had and buy this unlacquered brass faucet.

When it arrived, I loved it even more than I did seeing it online.  The quality is excellent.  And the gold color was better than I thought it would be.  I put it back in the box to store it until installation day.  A few days before the plumbers arrived, I removed the kitchen faucets from the box.  The faucets already started to have a really nice patina.  However… I was half embarrassed.  I commented how much I loved them, but was worried that the contractors would say, “Why in the world are you putting this raggedy faucet in a brand new house?”  I even asked Deb if I should shine it back up before installation day.

You can imagine what she said… LOL

I cannot believe how many great comments that we received.  One of them even asked me where I got it because it would look great in his own home.  Pretty much everyone who comes into our kitchen comments on them.  They usually say, “Wow.. where did you get that old faucet?”  Because they think it is authentically old.

I absolutely love the unlacquered brass as it gives them so much character.  This particular faucet came with your choice of handles, so there are different options.  And did you notice how fun the sprayer is? I love the shape of it.

I highly recommend the unlacquered brass if you like that worn look.  And again, you can polish them up to make them really shiny if you prefer that, too.

  • Hi! Your kitchen is GORGEOUS! I purchased this faucet using your link and unfortunately was sent an entirely different faucet... mine was not solid brass and came scratched and discolored. I was so dissatisfied! Would you have any other recommendations as to where to purchase a quality, handmade piece like the one yiu have pictured?

    • Well this completely disappoints me. Please tell me you got a refund. I cannot believe that. And, I have no other sources that I have personally tried.

  • I love the faucet! I will definitely be ordering. May I inquire about the countertops? There are so many choices out there. Is this a quartz? Thank you.

    • The faucet is really great. I also ordered a sink drain and a pot filler along with it. They are all good and need it. Thank you for recommending the Brasspure store; they have wonderful products. ❤️

  • I love your faucet and used your link to purchase my own. How long does it take for the patina-look to form? Did you encourage the process somehow?

    • We didn't do anything to encourage the process, and it probably took a few months to develop the patina look.

  • Hi, I bought a similar faucet from the company, but when our plumber installed it the join leaks a lot where the bridge and neck meet. Did you have any issues with this at all? Our plumber thought is was a issue with a washer inside, but the company is saying the washer is meant to look that way.
