This post is NOT aesthetically pleasing. That is your warning. I wasn’t going to share this utility closet here but I love to cross post everything for those who aren’t on social media. Because you need to know what we have been up to. Ha! Deb recently revised our coat closet in the laundry room and I’m so happy with how it turned out. I thought maybe seeing our utility closet makeover would give you some ideas for organization in your own home.
First off, this utility closet is actually our coat closet in our laundry room. It serves as double duty. If you haven’t seen that closet, you must check it out. We didn’t have the glass in the doors for almost a year but it’s now finished as of last week. Halleluia! Deb added all of the glass and I did my glass technique that I use on glass doors for privacy. From the beginning of planning our home design, we knew this was the closet that would house our vacuums, mops, etc. Because of it’s large size it would be perfect for that. So of course, we wanted a plug in that closet to charge our vacuums.
Our electrician wasn’t cooperative. There.. I said it. He was LESS THAN cooperative if you must know the truth. He didn’t do half of the things we requested and that he said he would do which one of the things was this plug. By the end of our experience with him, we just wanted him gone ASAP. Deb and I waved as the electrical team pulled out of the driveway for the last time.. I think we even gave the middle finger salute.
Anyway….
Deb said she could easily run a plug to that closet when we got settled in since it was above an unfinished part of the basement. And, there was a plug directly below it in that unfinished part. So that’s what she did. The electrician also failed to add a plug on another wall in the laundry room that I requested so she ran one there, as well.
But, they are finally where they were supposed to be from day one of this journey.
Deb not only ended up hanging the vacuums in this space but she built a little shelf to hold our handheld vacuum. Which, by the way, if you don’t have this little one, it’s a must-have in our home. I reach for this several times a day. It cleans up crumbs, dust, drywall dust after hanging things on the walls, the dirt from the fireplace, etc. It’s a dandy.
And, of course, in Deb style, she made sure the cords were all nicely run to the plugs so that it looked more organized.
Like I said, this isn’t aesthetically pleasing as far as home decor, etc, but it sure does make me happy.
I linked our vacuums below as I always get questions as to what our favorites are. We are absolutely loving our Dyson since it has a hair removing feature and we don’t have to rip it all apart when we empty it. It even went through my hair loss episode like a charm.
