Porch Railings Turned Banister

Hello, my Darlings.  (That doesn’t sound like me either, but I will figure it out.)

Porch Railings Turned Banister

Yesterday, I told you about our ginormous stairway landing renovation that is now complete.  I have told you about everything on the list EXCEPT the installation of the porch railings turned banister and have yet to show you the decor and styling of this area.

LOOK at this original list….  Yay!

  • Take off the stairway banister ☑️ and replace it with the most awesome chippy porch railing
  • Say buh bye to that ceiling light.  Move the light fixture OVER the steps, and then install a big and gaudy chandie, because we must have a chandie in every room.☑️
  • Install a sliding door on the outside of the bathroom which is technically seen from the landing.☑️
  • Paint the walls and trim my favorite shade of white – Sherwin Williams Pearly White☑️
  • Install our inexpensive pine wood boards as flooring just like our entryway.  See the flooring here if you missed that post.☑️
  • Style and decorate this room, which is also known to Deb as “throwing a bunch of junk around.”

Because problems are inevitable in old home renovations, way back in the beginning, the electrician said it would be best to access the lighting we wanted to add downstairs through the upstairs flooring. To disturb the ceilings in the lower part of the house would have been an extra mess.

What a MESS!

Not only did we have to install the inexpensive pine board flooring, but we also had to repair the holes.

Even after the repairs, the fear of falling through to the main floor still existed.  Ivy learned to jump over the holes as she trotted off to her bedroom each night.   Yes, she has her own little bedroom which I will share with you one day.  It is such a fabulous idea as to not have a large crate taking up space in the middle of a room.

See that box.   It holds the million square nails that I started to dislike (OK…totally HATE) clear back at the beginning of this project.  They are harder than heck to hand-nail into the pine boards, but they sure do look fabulous when finished.

And, see that air compressor.  It’s what we use to install the baseboards, etc, which Ivy started to dislike (OK…totally hate) clear back in the beginning of this whole house remodel.  Oh my garsh, she HATES that thing.

My Favorite Door

And this door….   I just can’t take it.  We chose to install a “real” mirror on the back side of the door which is the bathroom, and on the landing side, we used an “old antique mirror” which I created myself.  (Instructions to come in a future post.)

I get lots of questions on the barn door installation kits that we use.  We have found that Home Depot’s kits are fairly inexpensive and of great quality.  They are a piece of cake to install….specifically because Deb says they are.

And…. My Favorite Chandie Ever

And, of course, there is this fine gem.  If you missed the story of this beauty’s past life, click back to yesterday’s post.

Now….. I’ve rambled on too long.   You won’t want to miss tomorrow’s post of how we installed the porch railings.  A nervous breakdown occurs, and, it wasn’t by me or Ivy.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for each and every one of you who stop by the blog and comment.  If you want to see more of the House on Winchester, then you must check out Facebook and Instagram.   I share a few different pictures, in addition to what you see here.

BUH BYE, NOW – Said in a loud, high-pitched old lady’s voice, because how else could you say BUH BYE NOW?
