From the very beginning of this camper renovation, we knew we wanted a sliding barn door for the bathroom. In fact, I believe the original bathroom door was plucked out of that camper on day one! It opened up into the hallway which is NARROW. And directly across from the bathroom door is a closet, which also opened out in the hallway. Two doors in a tiny spot is a NO BUENO in my book. We had no clue what type of door we wanted to hang, but knew it had to be narrow and lightweight.
Our town has heavy trash pick up twice a year on our regular trash day. This is when we can all put out more than just our regular trash bags and recycling…. like appliances, furniture, etc. When we had our storefront, it was the most fun days of the year to shop. ???? Every day of heavy trash week, we would head out early and see what people threw out, load it in our truck, and take it to the shop for repair, paint, etc. And then go again at night for the people who put their items out early. I have picked up many great things on heavy trash.
Our first heavy trash was in June this year due to THE CORONUS. We decided to take Ivy for a walk. As we passed everyone’s trash piles, we were talking about all of the items that we would have grabbed if we had a store. One was an old weathered screen door. We jumped in bed that evening, and Deb said, “I wonder if that screen door would work for the bathroom slider.” We both jumped out of bed and carried that door home at 11:30pm.
The weathered screen door appeared like it had been maybe setting in someone’s flower beds for awhile. Because by the time we got it home, it had fallen apart into pieces. Which was fine because Deb was going to have to cut it down to fit that space anyway.
We picked up a thin piece of ply wood for the back for privacy. Deb painted both sides of the plywood white and ran a little stain through it to give it more of a rustic feel. She then cut down the door to the correct size, put it all back together, and attached that piece of plywood to the back.
We then hung the door using a miniature barn door slider. The miniature one worked out so much better than we thought. I believe they are advertised to use on furniture, etc, but size-wise it is perfect for our little hallway. And we knew our door wasn’t really heavy. The mini sliding kits can be purchased on Amazon. They have several different lengths of tracks so purchase depending on the size.
We will be installing a little hook and eye latch to keep the door from bumping back and forth when we move the camper, etc, but it’s done. I couldn’t be happier with how this door turned out. I’m so glad we ran back down the street and grabbed it off of the trash.

May I borrow Deb for a week? LOL This is by far the best RV makeover I have seen. You girls nailed it. The screen door is genius idea for the bathroom door. Just saw your other post using Ikea sofa.
