This is a long overdue post for sure.  I receive regular questions on our white flooring that we had installed in our new home.  If you missed all of the other posts that I shared previously, you need to check them out.  I have one post with pretty much all of the frequently asked questions, that covers about everything.  So, today, I wanted to particularly focus on giving you all of the details on the products we used to finish our painted floors.  Plus, you will get peek of our finished bonus room above the garage.

The Products We used to Finish our Painted Floors

Like I said in all of our previous posts regarding our pine wood flooring.  Pine flooring isn’t for everyone.  We have lived with them in several of our other homes for years.  Since pine is soft, they will scratch if you aren’t careful.  Deb and I happen to be very careful when moving furniture across the house.  However, this is the first home we lived in with them painted.  That is another question that I have get on a regular basis…  “Does the paint scratch easily?”  And, again.. we are careful.  So while being careful, my answer to that question would be NO.

The products we used to finish our painted floors probably have something to do with that.  We actually used an enamel paint from Sherwin Williams that is specifically for flooring.  We chose white right out of the can without mixing.  And he applied 3 coats of this paint.

I did a bunch of research when choosing a sealer for for our floors.  Polyurethanes can make colors to a yellowish warm color after a few years.  We have personally experienced that in the past.  And, since we chose to have them painted white, we needed a sealer that didn’t do that.  Which meant it had to be a water-based product.  I asked a few friends who have painted floors and they HIGHLY suggested the below product. He applied 2 coats total.

The sealer left the pine wood really smooth looking and really gave it a rich feeling to the floors.  We absolutely love how they turned out and wouldn’t change a thing.

This room happens to be the bonus room above the garage.  We weren’t going to finish it, but decided to at the last minute.  We knew it would be way less expensive to do while the contractors were here. 

As you can see, there is a lot of white.  However, this post of our family room gives you an example of how I warm the space up with decor.  We still aren’t clear on what we will do with this room but we are tossing up the idea of it being an office.  Who knows.  Whatever we do, you will be one of the first to know about it.
