Thick and Tangy Salsa Recipe

I shared this over on Instagram and you know the rules.. I share here, too.

Deb and I LOVE salsa.  We both love thick salsa with all of the veggies ground small…  Because our chips hold more that way.  ????  We have been making this SORT OF  fresh salsa FOREVER and get asked to bring it to a lot of gatherings.  If you are a chunky lightweight, runny salsa type of person, you won’t like this.  You will love it if you love thick, tangy, stick on your chip salsa.

This is kind of a cheater’s recipe.  I don’t want you to think this is fresh salsa, because we used can tomato sauce.  But the rest of the ingredients are fresh, making it taste fresh.  It is SO EASY.  I will still list the amount of each item that WE personally use… but you can adjust accordingly to your taste.  ALSO.. you can add fresh diced tomatoes and onions, too, if you want your salsa to be a little more chunky.

Thick and Tangy Salsa Recipe

Ingredients:

1 can of Tomato Sauce (28oz)

1 bunch of cilantro – De-stemmed (1 1/2 cups)

Jalapenos – Seeds removed (3-5 -preference to heat you prefer)

Green onions – (6-8 total)

Garlic – 1 clove depending on the size

Salt / Pepper

Directions:

Add to the food processor, all of the fresh ingredients.  This really is so much better with lots of salt.   Once this is done, add all of this to the tomato sauce and taste.

A lot of times, we have to add more garlic or cilantro, etc.   It’s all according to your taste.  Again, you can add chopped tomatoes and onions if you want the chunky type but we are thick and tangy salsa type of gals.

We have this KitchenAid Food Processor and LOVE it.  It’s very quiet and the blades are stored inside.

We use this not only for just dipping chips, but it is so good on burritos, taco salads, beans and cheese, etc.  We have already frozen it, too.  It freezes really well.

  • I have used a recipe similar to this except in place of the sauce it called for canned tomatoes!! Another option for a more chunky salsa!

  • This is what we do when tomatoes aren’t the best. During the summer my husband will roast the tomato and jalapeño to pump up the flavor. I could live on chips and salsa🌶️💕
