Tour of Squatter’s Camp with Updates

Squatter's Camp Play HouseSquatter's Camp Play House

Do you remember when the Squatter’s Camp was formed two years ago?  TWO years ago.  Time flies.  I truly cannot believe it’s been that long.  Jake will be 16 in December.  I love having Squatter’s Camp on our property as I think it’s such magical little place. Things maybe have changed since the last time I posted about it.  So, keep reading to see anything new you may have missed. Today, I wanted to give you a tour of Squatter’s Camp with updates and show you the inside.

But first, you need to see this entire project from the beginning if you haven’t.  Check out this area before the project was started and then the Squatter’s Camp plans and material list.  I also shared this post during the building of the structure so you can see how it all started.

If you would like to watch a video on it, check out this reel on Instagram or this TikTok.

Update on Squatter’s Camp

The Inside

I don’t think I have ever shown the inside of Squatter’s Camp here on our website.  I know I have over on social media, but that doesn’t count.  Remember.. the boys created this little structure and came up with this entire idea themselves. As this project progressed, other things did as well.  We had no idea the inside was going to evolve like it did.  Jake kept adding little things here and there to this special little structure, including a little kitchenette.  This sink is actually a little bowl that he got from grandma.  Look at the cute knobs on the stove and what he used for those.

Check out the little slots, under the window to the left of the kitchen. It holds fake money for all of the transactions at the concession stand window.  The little table inside is hinged, so it can be folded down to make more room inside.  And he made a little stool for that area as well.

Jake added this little corner bench with storage underneath.

The Outside

The table outside was made from a door someone donated to this project.  He added legs made from old trees that were found on the property.  And of course, using stumps for seating was a must.  The shutters for each window were made by Jake as well.  And, the front door is an old one that we had stored in the barn that we had for years.  He and his mom worked on this and made it a dutch door, which I think turned out cute.

Last year, Deb donated some string lights and a timer that we had in our stash.  So, Jake hung them up around the camp.  It looks so pretty at night when it’s lit up.  He recently gave the structure another coat of sealer to protect it from the dampness of the woods.  I just know Squatter’s Camp will be here for a very long time.  And I can see the grandkids loving it as much as we do.

What do you think about this idea?

  • This is adorable! ❤️I love the update, as I watched it evolve. What a talented kid Jake is! Very well done and he deserves a pat on the back. It couldn’t have happened though, without the help of very caring and talented adults in their life! They are lucky to have you guys Deb and Danelle, although I know their parents helped as well. Great team!

    • Thank you, Shannon. He is a very talented and driven young man. We love watching the things he comes up with.

    • Oh my goodness! I would totally live there! What a talented, young man! So whimsical and adorable!

  • Absolutely remarkable. I’ve watched this from the beginning and how it evolved from letter written to you and Deb to state their “right” to what it has become.
    I love it.
Great job and a promising future for them.
