Trashed Tuesday: Idea for an Old Ugly Picture

Who doesn’t have an old ugly picture somewhere in their stash?  I got an idea when I saw this picture on Pottery Barn’s website.  I was going to do this exact picture but didn’t want the frame red.  And I didn’t want to make the mirrored look because it looks gray.  And, then I wanted it to say something else. ????  So I used this as my inspiration piece and mixed it all up.

If you missed last week’s Trashed Tuesday makeover, I shared what we did with some old lamps.  And one of my favorite projects is the first one we did.  We revamped an old column.   Anyway… let’s get on with my Trashed Tuesday piece – What to do with an old picture.

Trashed Tuesday:  Idea for an Old Ugly Picture

Like I said above, I didn’t want to use the mirroring spray paint because I didn’t want this picture to appear gray.  I am a big fan of the frosted glass spray paint because it give glass a cloudy white look.  And white, of course, matches all of my decor.  So that was the plan.

I wanted to reuse everything in this picture so I removed all of the backing.  Deb spray painted the ugly picture with dark brown spray paint.  And then gave the picture matte a coat of paint.  Did you know you can do that?  I used to throw them away until I realized you can paint them any color you want.

I cut out the letters using my Cricut.  And, then I attached the letters to the back of the glass and gave the entire pice of glass about 6-7 light coats of the frosted glass spray paint.  Once that dried, I simply put the entire thing back together.  You truly could forget the frosted glass spray paint but it did give it a cloudy look.. which doesn’t show as well in this picture.

The frame got a quick makeover as well, which could be done on any type of frame that needs revamped.  I brushed on white paint that I had on hand.  And then gave it a coat of dark wax.  And added a little bit of gold rub-n-buff.  It made it look completely different.

That is this week’s Trashed Tuesday project.. Not really thrilling but not bad.  ????  We would have, for sure, made and sold these in our shop we used to have.  I really think the mirrored look would be really pretty, but I wanted something different.  If you want to see how to do the mirrored spray paint, I shared a post YEARS ago.
