I put together this warm neutral fall table and loved how it turned out. If you have been around for just a bit, you know that woods and whites are my thing.  And, you probably figured out by now that I am a neutral home decor lover as well.  I haven’t gotten much into why lots of color cannot be incorporated in our home but thought I would share.  I absolutely LOVE seeing color in other people’s homes.  The current style in the home decor world is texture on the walls whether it be in the form of vertical shiplap, bead board, and board and batten.  And then painting the walls a dark, deep, rich color.  I LOVE the look, but I just can’t!

I struggle with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and have since my mid 20s.  It is more than just feeling blue.  I usually have very low energy and just an overall feeling of BLAH.  My birthday is the end of September.  And, I remember feeling sad around my birthday when I was younger because I knew playing outside was coming to an end.  And, we would be stuck inside the house for months on end due to the terrible winters here in the Indiana/Ohio area.

My SAD usually starts around October and really ramps up in January and February.  Finally, come the spring months, I feel like a brand new person – like a light switch is flipped back on.  I wrote a post years ago on how I cope if you are interested.  Anyway, back to the point.  I just cannot live in a darker environment.  Dark painted walls make your entire home feel moody.  That’s the last thing I need.  In fact, it’s the exact reason why I cannot live in a home with a lot of “gray” items.

The reason I love my woods and whites theme and keep everything warm and neutral….

The color gray reminds me of the “gray skies” in this region.  All winter long here in the Indiana/Ohio area, the skies are gray and we have very little sunlight.  It’s what adds to my feelings of blah.  Therefore, I have learned in my 57 years of living that when I live in an environment of warm wood tones and white walls, I am over all happier.  And, I’m especially happier during the long winter months.

I figured that out when I realized how much I repainted the walls of our previous homes.  I used to pick deep rich colors for the walls and those colors would last 6 months.  And, off to the paint store I would trot.  Once I lightened everything up on my walls, I felt such a relief.  And, my walls stayed that way for years.  You didn’t know you would get a history on Danelle’s brain, now did you?  If you have that issue, I totally recommend looking around in your environment.  And, I don’t even mean only your home environment, pay attention to the walls in your work environment, etc. There may be nothing you can do about that situation, but becoming aware may make things a bit easier.

Now let’s lighten the subject and get on to this warm neutral fall table that I created.

Warm Neutral Fall Table

Neutral colors don’t mean only white.  I love adding warm browns, greens, and golds to our home… especially in the fall.   This gorgeous table runner  adds so much texture to this area.  It comes in lots of different colors.  This one is actually in the color Stone.  And then I added the long riser that Deb made me years and years ago.  It used to set under the pergola at our old house.  I’m hoping once she moves her workshop into the cottage, she will make another one.  And I can post a little tutorial here.  Because it truly is one of my favorites that I get asked about all of the time.

I added some gorgeous fall stems to an old Majolica pitcher.  Majolica is something that I pick up when I see it at garage sales or flea markets for under $15.  So I have about 6-7 pieces in the brown and green tones, which obviously looks great with all of the typical fall colors.  And, what is fall without a pumpkin .  I added this wooden pumpkin this year to my fall decor and LOVE it.  It looks perfect on this wooden riser that I added for height.  (Use code DANDD10 if you are interested in the riser.  My code is good site wide.)

I love these bowls….

I randomly found these wood bowls with white a few months back and use them on our kitchen counters as a collect all.  They are perfect for fruits and veggies or loose items that are always laying around.  And, the price is excellent.  The white paper mache apples have been around for while as well.  They come in two sizes and this is the large.

Black candle sticks go with pretty much every style.  These metal ones come in a set of six and will be perfect on one of our mantels for the upcoming holidays.  They are at a pretty good price point for a set of six and look spectacular with these birch wood battery operated candles.

I hope that you got some inspiration in today’s post.  Personally, seeing other people’s decor gives me lots of ideas to re-create things in my own space.  And, I hope it does for you as well.

Have a fabulous day, friends, and thanks for stopping by.

  • Wow thank you for explaining your SAD, I have the exact same thing. It was really interesting to read this!

    • Yes. I didn't realized that color really affects me in my own spaces until about 15 years ago. But, once I figured it out, it saved me lots of re-painting. 😂

  • Do you know where I can find a tray as long as the one in your Warm Neuteral Fall Table. I have a 10 foot dining tabel

  • Lovely as usual. I don’t know when you did this but it is timeless. Simple yet elegant. As always I look forward to more

  • I want to try to make Deb's riser. I think there was a link to her project but the link embedded in this article doesn't seem to be working. Would love to try, if the project directions are still available! Deb's my hero!
