We Have Chosen Our Paint Color

I have gotten several emails and messages asking what paint colors we are using on the walls of the new house.  I’m not sure if you know this, but I love our entire house, yes every room, painted the same color.  We all know it will be some color of WHITE.  But, do you realize how many WHITES there are in this world?  Pure White, Alabaster, Whitetail, Swiss Coffee are just a few and, trust me, there are a million more.  Well, I think we have chosen our paint color!

First off, I know that people have the hardest time choosing paint colors.  How many times have you gone to the paint store and picked the perfect gray.  After all of the work getting your walls painted, you stood back and thought, “Ummmm that looks purple.”  I gave a few tips on how to pick out a paint color in an old post that I wrote years ago.  So check it out if you struggle.

For awhile now, I had narrowed down the choices of whites in our new home to about five:  Alabaster, Swiss Coffee, Whitetail, Greek Villa, and Pure White.

What did we choose?

We Have Chosen Our Paint Color

Well… of course, we shared all of this over on social media stories and I got a lot of opinions.  One thing that I want to recommend to all of you is that when you are picking a paint color, especially a white, sample them in YOUR HOME.  All of our lighting is so different.  We live in a woods.  So we are surrounded by a lot of trees which gives a lot of shade.  Someone in a full sun setting will experience a completely different look with the same exact paint colors.

Here are my initial thoughts on choosing our paint color.  Everything is plain white (no color added) thus far… meaning the doors and trim, stairway railing, and even the floors.  So, I want a warm-toned white.. meaning I wanted it to pull a creamier white, but not yellow.  It will match really pretty with my wood tones in my antique furniture.  I definitely don’t want a cool white.  They look BRIGHT and crisp and sometimes almost blue.

White Sample Board

My lack of preparation for this post shows.  I didn’t have anything really exciting to sample these colors on except an old piece of mis-cut drywall.  BUT, you get the point.  We carried these color swatches around the entire house since the lighting is different in every room.  And, we both absolutely love the color Pure White by Sherwin Williams.  So… that’s what it will be.

It is the perfect white shade that I believe will go really well with all of our antique pieces.  Stay tuned.  That part should be coming up really soon.

  • I was hoping it would be Swiss Coffee!!! It will go so perfectly with everything!!!! It's all going to come together beautifully!! And, before you know it, you'll be moved in, enjoying all the wonderful things!! Yay!!!

  • Absolutely love your styles! Love the paint color you picked. I am struggling with picking the right cream white. Did you use Swiss Coffee at 100%? Can’t wait to see your home all finished, I know it’s going to be beautiful.

  • I know the pain of choosing the perfect white and guess what? We also chose Swiss Coffee for every room and hallway of our second story! We had already painted the downstairs a year before in Alabaster and while it was fine it wasn't as warm (without being yellow) as SC. We love SC! Your home is going to be beautiful - can't wait to see the finished product!

  • I can't wait to see you both relaxing at Christmas when all is done. I know every inch of your new home will look so very cozy and inviting. Love the Swiss Coffee!!

  • What’s your preferred type of paint? I can’t recall. I just know you don’t use matte. Thanks!
