I have been dying to get this porch here at the cottage decorated for winter. A few weeks ago, I shared my DIY evergreen pots with you, but the porch was at a stand still. I wasn’t inspired because the set of cabinets that I had on each side of the door needed work. I got them from my sister this summer when she moved and I did nothing with them except plop a few pumpkins and mums on top. The doors were actually leaning up against each cabinet. A few weeks ago, I decided to get that project done. We drug them into the cottage, poured ourselves some cocktails, turned on Alone, and I got busy.
I gave them each a coat of paint on the inside and two coats on the outside. Deb hung the doors back on them and added the knobs that were missing. That little project gave me just the motivation to get the porch decorated for winter. I plan on leaving this decorated all winter.
(I still have the knobs and hinges to paint, but I hopefully will do that today.)
I am drawn to evergreen trees that look real and I grabbed several new ones this year. Including the ones here on the porch. They have little pinecones and a wooden base. I did, however, tuck them inside my rusty buckets that I grabbed at a flea market last year.
Because I didn’t have two of each item, I needed to have everything blend with color. So, I added a wreath on each side in different spots. One is hanging on the light fixture. I added the other one under my little solar nightlight bird that I grabbed this past summer. Do you remember where he used to be?
I added an old porch post piece to each side with a candle. These were from a project at our old house. I have used them so many different times before in different ways. We usually keep everything like this because we know it will be a project of some sort.
I added a bowl full of wooden bells and one of Deb’s little Christmas trees she made from last week’s Trashed Tuesday project. AND… and old USPS box. I have no clue where it was from but I found it at a flea market last year.
Thanks for stopping by today. If you want to see any more of the Winter/Christmas looks I have shared, I have them all in one place for you.
