7 Simple Christmas Decor Tips to Get you into the Spirit

Have you begun decorating for the upcoming holidays?  Since we are currently in the midst of chaos, I am left feeling a little uninspired.  Strike that.  I am feeling VERY inspired to decorate for Christmas, but not here.  We have completely grown out of this cottage and have stuff shoved everywhere.  Why take everything back to the storage unit to move it again in a few weeks.  So we stack it up behind furniture, etc.  We are both losing our marbles but keep saying, SOON… SOON.  Today, I wanted to share 7 simple Christmas decor tips if you are in a similar situation, or if you don’t want to go hog wild in your decor this year.  Simply by adding a few of the following things, you can create holiday spirit without too much work.

7 Simple Christmas Decor Tips to get you into the Spirit

Christmas Candles

One of my favorite things to burn around this time of year are Christmas candles that smell like pine.  It reminds me of the times when I put up real Christmas trees.  It brings back lots of old memories.  Simply add a Christmas scent to your home, and it will give you instant Christmas vibes.  It may even put you in the mood to decorate a lot more.  I rounded up several candles for the upcoming holidays here.

Christmas Music

Everyone knows how much I love music. Music affects me in so many different ways.  It makes me happy and raring to go, and it almost calms me down.  When I am sad, I listen to sad music and it makes me feel better.  I once looked up a study on that because I was curious.  It said that it helps you work out your sad emotions rather than holding everything in.  Anyway, when I turn on Christmas music, that helps get me into the spirit of decorating.

I have lots of different playlists on Spotify if you want to check them out.  The best of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.  And I am currently working on a Christmas one for the holidays, so stay tuned for that.

Seasonal Throw Pillows

One of THE EASIEST ways to add holiday spirit to your home is to switch out a pillow covers to a seasonal one.  And it takes just one.  I normally add one season pillow to my group of every day pillows on the bed or on the couch and it instantly looks festive.  Also… I get asked a lot about my favorite inserts.  So I thought I would share here.  I love these down alternative ones and have many of them.

Tabletop Christmas Trees

I am a HUGE fan of tabletop Christmas trees.  Especially the trees that look realistic.  Add a a table top tree to a side table, your kitchen counter, or your coffee table and you have instant Christmas.  It takes two seconds. I rounded several up in a post that are gorgeous.

Winter Stems and Garland

Winter stems and garlands are another really simply way to add Christmas into your home with very little effort. You don’t have to do the huge staircase decor with your garlands either.  Simply add garland around your kitchen window or down the middle of a table, and you have instant spirit.  And the same goes with winter stems.  You can add artificial stems or real ones that you have cut from your own property into a vase and call it a day.

Twinkle Lights and Battery Operated Candles

Twinkle lights have come a long way.  You can add a string of Christmas lights to your room and you get instant ambiance.  They come in all sizes from huge bulbs that you can string across your room to fairy lights.  As soon as I see Christmas lights anywhere, I instantly think of the holidays.  This takes seconds.  I added battery operated candles to this category because they also add that twinkle light affect.  I love the birch ones that I grabbed a few months back.  You can add greenery down the middle of a table with battery operated candles in a split second.

Metal Items for Shine

Metal items in any color bring shine to your space.  I recently purchased several gold bells to add to my decor this year.  It really brings the festive spirit into the cottage.  You can add the bigger ones to shelves, a coffee table, or tucked in greenery and hang these down the side of your mental.  Did you see what I used them for last year?  Check this out.  The smaller gold bells can be used as ornaments for your tabletop trees or added to an old bowl. I added some velvet ribbon to mine.  It give just a little shine and may help you get into the Christmas mood.
