Deb and I have been working really hard.  She has been doing so many things around the property to be prepared before the snow flies.  And, with the busiest advertising season of the year upon us, I have been working like a fool in our business.  Add crossing off all of the last details of our new house to the mix, and we don’t know if we are coming or going some days.  Yesterday, we decided to take a bit of time and visit our favorite antique mall in our area.  (The Markle Antique Mall, Markle, Indiana)  And today, I have a few antique finds to share with you.  Do we have a storage unit full of goodies?  Yes!  And, do we need anything else?  No.  But, we wanted to get away and have some fun.

A Few Antique Finds this Week

Vintage Roseville Planters

When I see matching vintage containers at a great price, I always grab them.  This time of year, they are perfect for small Christmas trees on each side of the kitchen sink.  They also look really cute on bedside tables and beside the bathroom sinks.  And since they are a neutral color, I couldn’t go wrong.  They have a great weight to them and are in perfect condition.  How cute will they look with paper white bulbs in them, too.  Come spring, the options are endless.  Anyway, I think they were a steal at only $5.

Antique Stoneware Jug with Blue Star

Surprise… I collect antique stoneware jugs.  I have had a few for years.  But, do you remember the last antiques that I found from a garage sale?  Well, that haul consisted of three different sizes of stoneware jugs.  I found this 3 gallon, antique stoneware jug with a blue star sitting all alone on a coffee table in the middle of a booth.  It wasn’t displayed so it was almost as if someone just set it there.  It had a chip but I never care about that.  I looked at the tag and saw $10.  After putting on my glasses and verifying that I was seeing $10, I asked Deb to also take a look.  I never find these huge crocks for that price anymore and when I do, I scoop them up.  They look really cute on top of a large cabinet or grouped together with other similar ones.  This will look great on the porch this summer as well.  

I did a quick google search of the blue star pattern and these were crafted by Star Stoneware, in Crooksville, Ohio, which was in business from 1892-1945.  So this jug would be anywhere from 77 – 130 years old.  They used them for making whiskey and moonshine.  I am always amazed when I find something that is this old and was obviously very much used.  I would love to know who actually touched it and where it has been stored.  

Yellow Ware Lid

You probably already know this but I have a huge collection of antique yellow ware.  I have none with lids.  Deb found this lid, handed it to me and said, “You should probably get this.”  I agreed.  I have NO CLUE if it is old but it certainly appears to be with all of the crazing and the edging on the bottom.  The design with the white stripes is a bowl that I know I have in my collection.  Even if his isn’t old, I will add this to my yellow ware stash.  And for only $6, I think i was worth it.  Let me know by commenting below if you know anything about this lid.  I spen a good time trying to find any information and gave up.
