Don’t you just love the Facebook Marketplace?  Do you ever get on to browse around to see what people are selling?  It is so fun to look.  I have my algorithm down pat to where lots of great things pop up just from my previous searches.  I have been looking for a set of antique doors but they had to be a particular size.  We will have two doors on the bathroom upstairs that are outside sliders… so they will meet in the middle of the opening.  Well… what do you know.  Two antique library doors with a glass panels popped up and they are each 24″ wide.  It is exactly what we needed for that space.  They happened to be a little over an hour away, which is a lot less of a drive as our antique store counter, our pantry doors, and our antique fireplace mantels.  AND… the best part is that they were only $75.

Antique Doors for the Guest Bathroom

They do need a little work.. which includes stripped or sanding the old finish off of them.  The finish is bubbled and half worn off in some places.  Once that finish is removed, I will decide what I will do to them after that.  I may leave them raw wood and add a sealer or I may stain them a lighter color and then seal.  But I will make the choice after they are stripped.

Some of the old veneer was missing at the bottom, which we have the pieces.  So, Deb will be repairing that in a few places.  There is one piece of glass missing as well.  And, then I will be doing something with that glass for privacy.  Do you remember when I shared a post on how to create antique looking mirrors?  I may do that, but then again I may frost them, as I have used the frosted spray paint several times in the past which I love.

These doors will be so pretty in that area.  I cannot wait to show you when they are done and hung into place.  If you want to see any of the other doors we are using in the new house, here are the pantry doors and the doors for the closet in the utility room.  And stay tuned for these when they are hung.

Do you have confidence we can get these looking all spiffy again?  😁 I am questioning the veneer, but we will see.

  • Like you guys say, you won’t know until you try! But I have complete confidence in you two! If the stripping doesn’t work out with the veneer, you will end up making it fabulous!
