Details of the Antique Cabinet in our Bedroom

We have been scouring the Marketplace, flea markets, antique malls, and yard sales for the perfect cabinet for our bedroom.  This cabinet needed to be HUGE.  I’m talking huge like the one in our dining room. However, I wanted it for shoe storage so I wanted Deb to add cubbies to the bottom of it once we found the right piece.  I was scrolling social media a few months ago and saw someone post that they are getting a piece delivered soon that will be for sale.  They are a small business in Texas that ships across the United States. The piece couldn’t be more perfect.  Here are the details of the antique cabinet in our bedroom.

Details of the Antique Cabinet in our Bedroom

Let me back up a bit.  We had random pieces on our long bedroom wall. One of them was used as our dresser and the other larger one was use for extra bedding, blankets, and linens. I wanted to free up space in our closets that our shoes take up.  You may be thinking… why didn’t you design your house with a huge walk-in closet?  I do have my reasoning.  The bigger the closet, the more clothes and shoes you keep for years and years and years. I wanted one big enough to hold a decent amount of items but not a ton.

When I saw this cabinet, I immediately knew this was the one.  It has shelves on the top and, get this… it already has cubbies in the bottom.  This pine cabinet was found in England and it’s from the 19th century.  It came with some gold knobs but I don’t think they were original to the piece.  Deb added some knobs that we already had on the piece so that we could use it, but we will be looking for antique ones that will match. Did I mention it’s huge. It is almost 9′ wide and over 8′ tall.  So it fits our space really well.

It must have been painted previously because I can see some white paint in some of the cracks of the woods.  Someone carved some roman numerals into the doors throughout the years. How cool is that. Those are the things that make pieces one of a kind. I have some ideas of how to decorate this in our space so stay tuned for that.  Also, I will be sharing this wall once we get everything put back together.  The entire room is A DISASTER since I took everything out of two pieces.
