Wow…

Life has been a little chaotic over the last several weeks. ???? If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you have had lots of updates regarding the surgery I had on my shin.  You’ve probably heard more than you bargained for when you signed up to follow me.  ????

I told the doctor at my post-op appointment that I wanted to start a Shin Surgery Recovery group because recovery is so difficult.  The pain is low on the scale.  The recovery is slow.  It’s very, very SLOW.  Let’s just say I had to be a very patient soul. I lost my marbles a few times.

We hosted a baby shower for one of our four girlies this past weekend, which has been a few weeks in the making.  (Both the shower and the baby.)   Even when we weren’t physically doing something for the actual shower, the planning process was ongoing in our minds.  For the last several weeks, we mentally planned the lay-out of the church recreation hall, the food table decor, gift table decor, menus, etc.  You all know what goes into a big gathering.  And, then the work that goes into a big party the day before of preparing food is astronomical.

That’s now over, my shin is finally on the mend so that I can at least walk, and we have another 18,000 tomatoes from our garden to deal with.  Life sure is looking up compared to last week.  Alleluia and Amen.

Dining Room Farmhouse Table, Repurposed Antique Library Table

As promised back in 1986, I am finally working on, and hopefully posting in the next day or two, the dining room reveal post.  Yay!!!!

But first, I need to talk about the farmhouse table we found.  I originally brought into the dining room the round antique dining table that is now in the master bedroom.  It was entirely too small for this space.  So I started chit chatting about wanting a large farmhouse table. I figured the best size would be around 8′ because our room is pretty big.  The wifey said she would make us one using some old posts or columns for legs.  In the midst of the planning stages, this popped up on a Facebook garage sale site.

It was an antique library table that was 8′ long for $75.

How we made it work!

The size of the entire table was perfect.  It was even the average height of a dining room farmhouse table.  The space from the floor to the bottom of the drawers, however, was too small to fit chairs, let alone, our legs underneath, .  BUT, Deb pointed out that taking the entire table apart and cutting the sides down would be less expensive and probably less work than starting a farmhouse table from scratch.

We obviously couldn’t keep the drawers or that whole side apron piece.  So, we took it all apart and used the opposite side for both sides by cutting it directly in half.  We then cut the smaller side apron pieces in half, too, and put it all back together.  It cost us nothing but the original $75.

I ended up painting the legs and sides, what other color than white, by using a paint technique that I kind of made up myself and actually ended up liking. ???? I may do a post on it some time.  It’s easy and makes it look really worn without sanding.

You’re probably thinking, “Why are you talking about your farmhouse table and not getting on with the reveal?”

Well, I want you guys to keep an open mind when seeing something you love that is “not quite right.”  It may be able to be tweaked just a little bit to make it perfect.  Because this table turned out perfect for our space.
