Do you all remember when we found this Antique Parker cabinet this past summer at a flea market? I shared it again, decked out for Fall, in a post where I talked about how we clean antique furniture. Since the Christmas tubs from the basement made their appearance this week, everything in this little rental got spruced up for the holidays. Including this Parker cabinet. I only call it a Parker cabinet because of the stenciled name on the drawer. It has top doors but I wanted to keep them off so that I could display my favorite sponge ware pottery. I want to show you how to decorate an antique cabinet and thought I would share this simple way to decorate using collections that takes two seconds.
I like to create a Winter Wonderland during the holidays. Which means I add Winter trees EVERYWHERE. I mix and match green, flocked, and iced trees all together. One of my favorite things to decorate is the tops of my antique pieces. A trick to making a collection of trees feel like they are part of your other collections is to use the collections themselves. I used my larger sponge ware pieces to display my trees, which immediately brings the two collections together.
If ever you are at a loss of how to decorate a mirror, mantel, cabinet, etc, hang a garland on it. That is my motto. ???? I have a collection of different types of garlands that I have collected throughout the years. Some are antiques and some are new. And, I usually buy a few new ones every year to add to my stash. I picked up this mercury glass acorn garland and the pinecone garland at Anthropologie this year and love them.
I just use a screw at the top of my cabinets to layer my garlands, which I will remove after the holidays. They are so simple to hang and only take a few minutes. It’s my go-to when I want something to look holiday-ish without taking a ton of time.
So there you have it. If you are ever at a loss of how to decorate something, hang a garland on it! Or two! It’s so simple and easy! Stay tuned because I will be regularly sharing my holiday looks, here at the rental, over the next couple of weeks.
