June Health Goal – MOVE

I started these monthly health goals back in January. When I was planning out my new year, I realized I did the same old thing every single year as far as “resolutions” go.  And every year, I failed them all.  Miserably!   This year, I had so many things I wanted to change as far as health goes.  But, I didn’t know where to start. So, I decided to try something new. I decided to focus on ONE change per month. Sometimes when I focus on too many things needing changed at once, I get overwhelmed and quit.  Here it is… June…. And, IT’S WORKING!

You guys… it’s SO MUCH easier.  I’ve heard a million times that it takes three weeks for change to set in and become a habit.  So a month is even better.  I haven’t felt overwhelmed with it all because I only have ONE THING to focus on at a time.  I started in January by eliminating creamer from my coffee because I drank the bad stuff.  Not to mention, I drank half creamer and half coffee.  I knew all of the calories, sugar, and chemicals weren’t good.  And, I am happy to tell you that I survived.  I still don’t drink my coffee black, but I have found way more healthier versions such as adding a little of my FAVORITE honey.  We learned that trick in Mexico.  Honey takes the bitterness out of coffee.  And, it tastes delicious.  We use our homemade nut milk sometimes.  And, we LOVE this Laird Superfood creamer, too.

June Health Goal – MOVE

As most of you know, we started working out in January.  I give updates quite often in our stories over on Instagram.  I usually let you know how the workouts went, post little gym clips of us working out, and I like to give you guys #RedFaceUpdates on Deb.  She is the person who gets bright flaming red when working out.  She looks like she is dying.  But, she isn’t. ????

When we signed up in January, we had NO CLUE what the heck we were doing.  We haven’t worked out in YEARS.  Our gym offers classes that are quite frankly the hardest workouts EVER.  I didn’t even really know what working out was until I attended them.  (You start at your own pace, so if you are a newbie… no need to worry.)

The classes are cardio and weight training all together in one…   So we have one brutal, 45-minute workout where we sometimes burn over 500 calories.  We made a commitment back in January to take three classes per week.  And, it was HARD.  IT WAS SO HARD.  Like I said above.  I have NEVER worked out like this before in my entire life.  I have never had so many sore muscles at one time and I swear neither of us could sit on the toilet without moaning for a month.  ????

Our New Goal for Gym Workouts

I am happy to report that we survived by pushing through the pain of the sorest muscles ever.  We blew our January goal of going to 3 classes per week out of the water.  Sometime mid April, we started adding one more class per week into the mix and made that our new goal.

Well, I am here to tell you that starting this month we added another day.  We decided that 5 days a week is the best, because our bodies had a harder time moving again after too many days off.  We have noticed muscle definition in places we didn’t even know we had muscles.  ???? And, I’m stronger now than I have ever been in my 153 years of living.

This goes to show me that, once again, it’s best for me personally to focus on smaller goals and then renegotiate them, if need be.

Walking

If you have been around here for very long, you know we switched Ivy to an all natural dog food.  I have seen SO MANY changes in her.  She has lost several pounds and gotten down to a healthy weight.  Dogs need to MOVE, too.  Therefore, I added daily walks with Ivy into my June goal.   It not only does her good, but it does us good, too.

If you want to read about the rest of my monthly goals and what they are, just type HEALTH GOALS in the search bar up top.  Also, I have a few items under the SHOP Health tab that we couldn’t live without for our workouts.  Several of you said you were going to try your own monthly health goals with me.  If you are, how do you feel?  Is it easier to go month by month?  Let me know below in the comments or over on Facebook and Instagram.
