OK guys….. It’s finally time for the kitchen reveal. Room reveal posts take a long time because of the massive amount of pictures and picture editing, etc, and we’ve been rather busy around here. You know…the pergola…. another project that is taking F.O.R.E.V.E.R. We have lots of things to finish before the dumb “W” word sets in. You all know how much I despise Winter’s darkness. ????

I told you that we tore out the wall between the dining room and the small galley kitchen to make it part open. I like kitchens to have a little privacy because of that old dirty dishes thing.
The kitchen was a ton of work and lots of decisions needed to be made because the entire thing was gutted. I had my checklist of things I wanted. Deb kind of let me do this part. You know..that would be like me planning out her workshop. I knew, FOR SURE, that I wanted a large pantry, a big vent hood over our stove to make a statement, and to use our antique store counter we had in storage as the island. It was something we had at our last house in the basement bar area and I’ve always wanted to use it as an island in our kitchen. This was the first house that would hold such a large piece.
A little story behind the counter. Years ago, I saw an add in our local Peddler’s Post. It said “antique candy store counter” $650 and had a phone number listed. Peddler’s Post lady said it was taken out of a candy store that was located downtown. She happened to live right down the road from where I was working at the time so I ran down over my lunch hour. It was in an old car port type building partly exposed to the weather. It looked exactly like it does now except it had a healthy layer of bird shit on the top. (Seems to be a trend around here.)
I, of course, wasn’t about to pay $650 for something that the nice lady obviously didn’t care about. It was 8 feet long, so I knew it would take the perfect person to be able to use it.
I offered her $250.
Her face looked like this: ???? She said, “I can’t go that low.”
I said, “Here is my number. Give me a call if you want to sell if for $250.” ????????♀️
Needless to say, THREE MONTHS later, (you read that right) Peddler’s Post lady called and said, “If you want that candy counter for $250, you can have it.”
While planning the kitchen, I only wanted lower cabinets that looked like “real” cabinets. I wanted to improvise for the upper ones. First up, Deb was going to make me a big range hood. I had several pinned on Pinterest but I ended up finding this one at the Habitat for Humanity store on sale for $50.
I planned the pantry for food and the island would store all of my dishes, but I needed something small for my spices on the left side of the stove. I found the little pine cabinet at our local flea market shortly after we moved in which worked perfect.
I ended up wanting another cabinet on the right side of the stove for oils and vinegar used for cooking. I found the top of an antique grandfather’s clock for $5 at a garage sale that fit the spot. Deb is going to make a door to hide the contents, but for now, it’s good. ????????
Just like the chandeliers in this house, the cabinet to the right of the sink is another piece I’ve hauled around and hung in every house we’ve lived in. Will it ever end? ????????♀️ I displayed some antique dishes in that piece.
I could picture 95% of this kitchen in my head during the planning stages but there was that other 5% that had me all stressed out. We had to tell the electrician where the counter would be for these pendant lights before the counter was even here. It was a little guessing game on a few things, but overall, I’m happy with it…. for now. (That gray wall is going to go buh bye.) ????

Well, it's stunning. So much to look at. You've planned it out well. I love the vintage upper cabinets mixed with the white lowers. I've decided I need a chandelier above my sink now. I noticed you have a single bowl kitchen sink. How do you like that? I've wanted one of those for 30 years. lol. It's all really beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Becky. You, definitely need a chandie above your sink! And yes, I LOVE the single sink. I had one in the last home we lived in and loved it. Therefore, it was a must here. It's excellent for washing large items and if you have a dishwasher, you don't really need a side to dry.

Awww. thanks, Kim. That's our laundry room. And that little cabinet is one my dad made from an old door. He didn't like it. ????????♀️ So, it came to our house and holds our sweeper, laundry soap etc.

I ???????????? this kitchen! I have a chandelier that used to hang in my Grandparents' house, and I've hauled it all over the place - six states to be exact, and we still have another move to make in two years when hubby retires. I have no idea where we'll go, but we're definitely leaving the East coast. I have family in Arkansas and it's Idaho for DH's family. DH says I'm the only person that would wind up paying more than the original asking price!

Hi! I just love your house and we are planning to renovate our entire house in the next couple years. This may seem like an odd question, but what colour/finish of door knobs do you have throughout your house? Or are they antique ones? And also for outside doors? I am struggling with this decision, whether to go the blackish finish or nickel/silver look. Shouldn't be this hard! ????Thanks! Jodie
