Large Chunky Candle Holder DIY

Do your remember the large wooden tray that Deb made me several years back?  She used all scrap wood that was leftover from other projects.  I originally had it on our outdoor table at the old house.  You can see it here in this post.  And, I have actually use that wooden tray in so many different looks throughout the years.  You can also see a fall look and a Thanksgiving look that I shared with the wooden tray, too.  Well… I wanted Deb to make me a large chunky candle holder and she did. So I wanted to share that today, per several requests, so you could make one for yourself if you want.

See the large chunky candle holder in this video.

I had this idea after seeing something similar on social media, but I can’t remember where.  It was displayed down the middle of the table and I thought it looked so cool.  However, the shape was different.  It was straight on the sides so it looked more modern.  I wanted a little bit different look to match my style a bit better.  So you can design the sides however you want.  But all you need is…..

  • 2 boards the same length – We used 2x6s, but you could make it whatever width you want.
  • 1 – 2×4 board several inches shorter which is what you will use in the middle for the candles.
  • wood glue and or an air nailer

Like I said above, I designed the sides by drawing on the 2×6 boards.  Deb cut them out with a jig saw.  You then drill holes in the 2×4 where the candles will be.  You can obviously drill as many as you want depending on how big your piece is. I had Deb drill 11.  And, then you attach the three boards together.  Deb used both wood glue and air nails to attach the boards together.  And then I chose to stain mine with Minwax stain in the color Provincial, but you can use whatever color you want.  Or you could paint it.  That would be pretty, too.

Let me know if you make one. I think this will come in handy for the upcoming holidays.
