If you watch social media stories last week, we decided to attend the Tri-State Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show in Portland, Indiana.  It’s about 30-40 minutes from our house.  Deb was in the middle of a project and I was finishing up some work and we both got a wild hair and decided to take off.  We do that quite often.  Usually last minute trips are the best because neither of us like appointments or commitments, so it works out well.  This show is something we used to attend almost every year.  Along with the tractor and engine show comes antique booths and their city-wide garage sales.

We thought… what the heck!  We may as well go check it out to get out of the house.  We found just a few little items that day, but I still wanted to share my last week’s small antique haul with you.

Last Week’s Small Antique Haul

In the past years, there were A LOT of antique booths set up at the fair grounds.  This year, there didn’t seem to be as many.  It was still really fun to walk around and look at different things.  We saw a booth with taxidermy, one with a TON of yellow ware bowls, antique metal signs, and so much more.  We walked out of the actual fair grounds empty handed.  

On the way to the show, we saw lots of different barn sales that looked pretty interesting.  We decided that we would hit them on the way back home.  I’m so glad we did.  Even though we didn’t find much that day, we still found a few gems and a few items for friends.

Old Chamber Pot

I love old chamber pots.  Considering the fact that I have a toilet phobia, this sort of shocks me.  I think they are so interesting.  They are the perfect color for my decor.  Ha!  And, they are all so unique and different.  I found this one for only $15, which is an excellent price considering it still has the lid intact.

Pig Shaped Cutting Board

I have told you several times that Deb and I have plans to add lots of different things to the house once it is done:  wallpaper, wood accents to the walls, peg boards, etc.  One thing I haven’t shared is that I have a place that I want to make a cutting board rack.  Have you seen them?  I have a few pinned on a Pinterest board if you want some inspiration.  

I have several vintage wood cutting boards that I have collected through the years, but I finally found a vintage one in the shape of a pig.  Won’t he look so cute displayed on my rack?  He’s really thick and he was a steal for $5.

Wooden Mashers

When I see wooden mashers for a few dollars, I grab them.  Did you know I have an entire collection?  I have been collecting wooden mashers for YEARS.  I believe it was one of my first collections that I started when I was in my early 20s…. along with rolling pins and yellow ware bowls.  Most of them, I found for $1-$2.  They are my faves.

Toy Vehicle – Vintage???

Neither Deb nor I know what the heck this vehicle is and don’t know the age.  It is metal so it’s not really new.  I believe the newer ones are plastic.  But, we pick these random toys up for the grandsons when they are here.  They love them and play with them quite often.  Is it a wrecker?  Ha!  Let me know in the comments below.  I cannot remember, but I think it was $10.

A few odds and ends for friends…

Crumb Catchers

I have told you in the past that we have a network of friends who all watch out for each other. When we see something that we know a friend collect at a great price, we will grab it.  I found two antique crumb catchers for one of our friends who collects them.  Once actually has the words “crumbs” on it.  He sold it to us for $5 and he threw in the smaller one with it.

I don’t know much about crumb catchers but thought I would share what little I do know.  They have several different names including a “silent butler.”  They came with a small brush and they were used in the victorian era to brush the crumbs or ashes off of the table.  I think they are pretty cool, too!

Religious Memorabilia

We have another friend who collects religious memorabilia.  The same garage sale had this antique religious silver wall hanging.  He threw that in for a few dollars so I grabbed it for our other friend.  

That was last week’s small antique haul.  It wasn’t much, but it brought us a bunch of joy.  We kept saying, “This was a really fun day!”    I love seeing what other people find in their neck of the woods, so I hope you do as well.
