My Small Antique Haul from last Week

You know I love a great antique haul.  I also love sharing them and I do when I find some great pieces. Well.. I found some great pieces this past weekend so here we are.  We stopped at a thrift store randomly one day when we were doing errands which I brought something home for $10.  And, a last minute flea market visit paid off. So, here is my small antique haul from last week.

My Small Antique Haul from last Week

Deb and I had a bunch of errands last week including picking something up from Home Depot.  Well, right beside Home Depot is a Salvation Army.  We rarely get out that way in town so we stopped.  They had a lot of great things that day including this clock with a price tag of $9.99. I’m so confused by the age of it.  I thought it was old because of the style and the glass and brass door on the front looks old.  However, the mechanism to run the clock is new.  It’s made of plastic.  However, I’m not sure if the clock is actually old and someone switched them or if it’s new. Whatever it is, I don’t care.  It’s perfect here in our family room.  We have never had a clock in here so I’m enjoying it.  It chimes every 15 minutes but it is set to a very low setting so you have to really listen to hear it. Let me know if you have any information on it.

I met my cousin at a flea market that is in the town we used to live in on Sunday. They hold it the first Sunday of every month all year long. Since our weather isn’t good during the winter, it is inside only. Once it starts warming up, people set up tables outside and the closer to summer it is, the busier it gets.  The weather was fantastic on Sunday so people were already outside.  There was a vendor who had two tables.  Everything on the one was $5 and everything on the other one was $10.  She had so many great vintage items. So, her booth was right up my alley.

“This is a 19th century Majolica plate featuring Mercury or Hermes carrying away Tanagra.”

I found several pieces at her booth to add to my collection of yellow ware and spongeware including a few bowls and this plate.  The plate was added to my cabinet in the bedroom that has all of my random green and gold pieces. I knew nothing about this plate until I did a reverse google search and I found just a small bit of information above. Let me know if you know anything else about this. I thought it was so cool. The crazing on it is spectacular.

Here is one for sale!

I cannot remember exactly which items were $5 and $10 but all of them were those prices. These two vintage wooden hand mirrors I know were $5.  I loved them and they went right in my collection of celluloid hand mirrors that I have collected for years. And, I found these gorgeous cast iron bronze finish bookends that have such great detail.  They say Stratford on Avon and when I shared on social media, I found out what that means.  Ha!  I guess this was the cottage of Shakespeare’s wife, which I had no clue.

I did find these for sale here.

And then I found this little wooden box.  I have no clue what it is or if it is old but the price was right and I loved it. I will be able to style this pretty easily so stay tuned for that.

And, that is my antique haul from last week.  If you like seeing this type of post, check out all of my antique hauls that I have shared over the last few years.

  • You got some fantastic deals! I saw in a magazine how someone displays old handheld mirrors on a wall with the mirror facing in because the backs are usually beautiful. They just put two little nails to slip the handle in at the base of part of the mirror. Do you display yours?

    • That is such a cute idea! I keep mine all grouped together, laying on their sides in a basket.

  • I have a clock very similar to yours but it says Bulova on the face and, since it is battery powered, no, at least mine is not old. I purchased it at a community garage sale back in a suburb of Chicago many years ago. Unfortunately, since I live in an apartment building now, I don't use it in case the chimes annoy my neighbors. Here's a little something about the village of Stratford on the river Avon in England from Wikipedia:
Stratford-upon-Avon (/-ˈeɪvən/), commonly known as just Stratford, is a market town and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district, in the county of Warwickshire,[2] in the West Midlands region of England. It is situated on the River Avon, 91 miles (146 km) north-west of London, 22 miles (35 km) south-east of Birmingham and 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Warwick.[3] The town is the southernmost point of the Arden area on the edge of the Cotswolds.[4] In the 2021 census Stratford had a population of 30,495.[5]

  • Love your posts! I have to know where you got the large white egg? I love it! Your home is beautiful and I learn so much from you two beautiful gals!

    • Can you believe how big that egg is?! It was from tjmaxx.com, but unfortunately it sold out awhile ago.

  • Hi Danelle! The clock you purchased is probably approximately 50ish years old. My father and uncle both received the exact one as a 25 years of service from General Motors in the late 80's. It was a long standing program and I'm not sure when it started with that style.

  • My Nana had a box just like that, which hung on the kitchen wall and held treats for all of her grandchildren. She had painted on it “If Mom says no, ask Nana” . Great memories 😊
