Ever since we moved here to the cottage, I have had a white round table here in front of this huge leaded glass window.  Along with two wing back chairs.  Recently, I decided to switch things up for the winter months simply for something different.   You know me… I will get a wild hair and decide instantly that I want a change.  

If you have been around here for any length of time, you know that I need only neutrals around me.  We used to have a very colorful house.  And, we used to have a lot of black furniture.  Almost every six months, I would need to paint the walls a different color.  It’s almost as if something flipped in my mind.  Deb would hear, “OK… that dark green has to go.”  Or, “Tomorrow that black cabinet is going to be painted white.”  It was then that I realized I needed a neutral color palette to feel calm.  And, once everything was painted a shade of white, I stopped re-painting everything.

I have no idea why I went into all of that.  ????  Oh… yes!  The need for change.  One way to keep my creativity going is moving furniture around.  It’s way less work than re-painting every 6 months.  

Neutral Winter Decor

We use this little breakfast area every single day.  It is right off of our kitchen.  It is a nice place to hang out when one of us is finishing up a meal.  I am loving these tufted chairs as a change in this space.  They are a lot larger than the wing back and they fill the space so nice.  I can see these chairs in a bedroom or the end of a dining room as well. 

You may have noticed that I added a jute rug to this area.  The previous rug that we had here was way too small, but it worked temporarily. It was there simply because I found it in our storage unit, so I used what I had.  I added these candlesticks here on the floor for the picture because I wanted ambiance.  They didn’t stay because one of us would knock them over.  And when I say, ONE of us.. I am meaning all three of us.  Ivy included. 

One of my favorite ways to make a space look seasonal without going overboard is to simply add one accent pillow.  I loved this little pine tree pillow to give this space a little wintery feel.  It could remain out through the spring, too.  And, of course, I added a forest of trees.  I love these lightly flocked winter trees.  As you can tell, I didn’t add lights or ornaments and just kept them very simple.

I hope this inspires you to see the areas in your own home a little different.  Switch around furniture and use spaces in a different way and it feels like you have an entirely new home.
