I was sent a photo over on Instagram of a small deck built by a pond. We both fell in love with the look and decided that we would love one of our own. The sunsets are so beautiful out here in the country in Ohio. So, this deck will give us another little seating area with a place we can thoroughly enjoy those sunsets, while having a cocktail. We ended up calling the guy who installed our deck behind our cottage. And, he worked on it while we were in Brown County.
We wanted him to use all of the same materials, which I shared the details of in the last deck post. And we wanted it small. Just enough for two Adirondack chairs and maybe a little side table. We ended up coming home from our trip to a deck that was done!
Of course, the second we pulled into the driveway, we grabbed Ivy and made a trip to the pond to check out the new addition. Ivy immediately made herself at home. I was hoping for a gorgeous sunset so we could take a few photos. After all, it is what we wanted the deck for in the first place. And last night’s sunset didn’t disappoint.
We have plans to add a few boxwoods around the pond to keep some green all winter. And also add a few urns and flowers for the summer months.
We love creating different sitting areas around our property so that we have options. We already have the deck on the back of the cottage and the pergola swing we built this past summer. And, we must not forget about the fire pit that we made last spring. Which we will be enjoying a lot in the upcoming chilly nights. And, also the front porch of the cottage.
We are so happy we could add this little deck onto the pond. I can see us enjoying many, many evenings watching the sunsets. Keep watching for our decor around this deck, because you know it will happen.

I absolutely love this new deck on the pond! It is so perfect in all seasons! I imagine a Christmas tree with round white lights sitting on the deck for the holidays. Gives me chills thinking of enjoying sunsets there.

This is very similar to what we have. I love sitting down the hill from our house at the edge of the lake watching the sun set behind the trees. Or watching a storm roll in. Wish I could share photos to you of what my husband did to make it easy for me to get to our deck. But I'd have to go out on the water, which I refuse to do! He made steps, framed with 4x4's with stone in the center, as rustic steps in three places of our sloped property. Took him months, in a hot summer, at 69 years old, all by himself to build, dig and set them in place. Then put solar step lights on every other one. It's truly lovely, day or night! I hope you will enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours!
