Our Antique Bar Stools and Foot Railing

When we originally started planning our new home, I had this vision for our kitchen.  I wanted to use an old store counter and add some antique bar stools.  But I didn’t know where I would find 4 matching antique bar stools.  Long before our house was started, we visited my sister in North Carolina.  And happened upon the perfect ones at at antique mall.  To be honest, we didn’t buy them.  And a few days later, right before we left, we decided to go pick them up.  And, into the storage unit they went.  We just got them installed a few days back.  And today, I wanted to share how our antique bar stools turned out.

Our Antique Bar Stools

Our antique bar stools remind me of an old soda fountain.  But they were in pretty bad shape.  Two of them had cracked seats that Deb repaired.  They all had wads of gum under the seats, were very rusty, and pretty filthy.  After giving them all a little makeover, we installed them in our new kitchen.  We loved how they looked, but they weren’t very comfortable.

We decided to make them way more comfortable, we needed a foot rail.  How cool would an antique brass foot rail be?  And where the heck would we find one?  Well.. I text one of our “networking buddies.”  When she needs something odd, she texts us to keep our eyes peeled.  And we do the same.  She informed me that she had one but it was only 6′ long.

I then received a text from her of one that was on the marketplace two hours from us.  It happened to be 12′ long which was exactly the length we needed for our kitchen island. And it had the brackets.    If you have been around here for a bit, you know us.  We travel when it comes to antique pieces we want for our house.  Remember the pantry doors?  And the fireplace mantels?

Anyway, we ran to pick it up… and installed the foot railing when we got home.  We need some end caps for it as they were missing and I want to polish it up a bit. But, it made the bar stools a lot more comfortable.  And I think it gave us that EXTRA feature that we love.
