Our Bathroom and the Decor I Used

As you know, we have been working very hard at getting this house put together.  You need to check out a few of the posts that I shared over the last several months, if you missed them.  Here are posts on the laundry room, the kitchen, the family room, and the bedroom.  I shared how they all turned out.  Well, today I wanted to share our bathroom and the decor I used.  Because that room is done, too!

We are slowly turning his house into a home.  To me, the word “house” means the actual structure you live in. The word “home” has a feeling attached to it.  The feeling of home relates to your senses… smelling candles and food cooking, hearing music playing, and seeing all of your pretty decor.  Also, all of your experiences that you have within your home from gathering with friends, family, etc.

Before I get into the bathroom and the decor….

A lot of thought goes into putting a room together for me.  It isn’t as simple as plopping a basket of flowers on the table and calling it a day.  I love our rooms full as I find them a lot more cozy.  So, my goal in every room is to try to get as much furniture in them as I can.  But there has to be a balance.  They can’t look cluttered and they have to be functional.

I remember when we sold one of our homes, the real estate agent looked at the pictures and commented on our decor. She asked how I got so much into each room. Ha!  And said that it’s like everything in each room fits perfectly.. and like it’s made for that space.  I took it as a compliment because that is always my end goal.  I have always been known as the person who can get more furniture into a space even if you think it’s already full.

Our Bathroom and the Decor I Used

The Basics

Let’s start with the lights.  These are actually vintage ones that we had in our stash.  And they were swagged together at one time.  We had NO CLUE what we wanted in this bathroom and went without lights for the first few weeks.  I was so sick of using the bright ceiling lights and remembered we had these in the garage.  I asked Deb to rewire them into single ceiling lights and hang them.  Neither of us could stand them.  All I could see was a big droopy boob.  Ha!  People over on Instagram agreed.  Once I started getting all of my decor in this room, these lights actually grew on me.  It took them out of the main focus and made them more of an accessory.

The vanity and faucets are from Signature Hardware and deserve a post on their own.  But, if you want the links now, check out this post.

The Decor

When I started working on the bathroom decor, I knew I wanted some type of plants by our sinks.  The plants though had to be small because I didn’t want them crowding what little area we have by our sinks.  So I went with topiariesI love these as they look real.  The pot is great, too, but since I love vintage decor so much, I added them to old crocks.  I love how they look on each side of the sinks.  And, I LOVE decorative, but simple, soap dispensers.  I grabbed these from Amazon.  It’s all about the little details.

I shared this area over on social media and had a lot of questions about the green box.  It is an old tool box that I found at a garage sale for $2 years ago.  Deb and I use this for all of our makeup.  It works perfectly because it sets right between our sinks and we can both grab what we need each day.  I like the rustic charm it adds.

I hung my little wood cabinet with a glass door so that I could display some of my fun things.  It’s my cabinet of curiosities, I guess.  This was hung in the bathroom in the old house and I loved it there.  We are reunited with it after 3 1/2 years… since we just got our storage unit cleaned out.  So, I thought it would be perfect here.  A separate post will be coming soon on the contents of this little cabinet.  The same spot on the other side of the room got an antique frame with a rabbit print.

Did you notice the night light?  We made that years ago when we had our storefront.  It is a wood lamp and a column attached together.  Deb rewired the entire thing as a nightlight and it’s one of my favorite things.

What do we have left in the bathroom?

I want to add different wall treatment to rooms, but right now, we are focusing on getting things put away and organized, and decorating.  So I want to add some type of bead board on the lower half of this room and maybe some textured wallpaper at the top.  I want to make some towel holders for each side of the sink and get those hung.  Can you see that my mind never stops.

The next room we are focusing on is the dining room.  I absolutely cannot wait to get that massive cabinet on that long wall we have in there.  I got a great start yesterday on the room, so be watching for posts of that room coming soon.

If you want to see more of our bathroom, I have several posts on it.  Check these out!
