OK…so here’s the story.  I completely glossed right over and forgot my last Five on Friday post, because we’ve been working non-stop on this DANG pergola.  And best yet, it appears as though we are getting nothing done.  ????

Project Pergola – The Middle Stage

Project pergola is a BIG job which involves several big steps, with lots and lots of little steps in the middle stage.  We worked on all of those boring little middle steps all freaking weekend, so every picture that I have taken looks the same as the last one.  It’s kind of frustrating.

We’ve created one other pergola before, so we knew what to expect, but I just want it to be done.  This is not the most fun project, but I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end.  ????

Decisions, Decisions!

So….. we had a decision to make.  Our front porch has 3 columns on the corner which is a pretty unique which I believe was the original design of the house.

From the very beginning of this project, we planned to install three posts on each side of the front section to tie everything in with what was original to the house. We were afraid though that it would take up too much space and obstruct the view of our backyard.  So basically, we started building the structure with one post on each side to see what we thought.

We lived with this design for a day.  We then decided to lug the other four other posts that we had originally bought back to the site and temporarily attach them so we could get a visual.

(Remember from my last post that these huge posts each weigh 6,000 pounds.    I’m starting to think I’m too old for this ????.)

We definitely liked the three posts best because it makes the structure more massive.  Plus, you all know we like big and gaudy around here.  It makes a bigger statement.

The Progress

So basically, we fixed our giant mistake, have all six posts attached to the concrete, and are done with the outside framing. ????  We are now ready to install all of the beams across the top of the structure and then add the lattice-work to the top.  After that, the little wifey will do her thing and I will do mine.  She will trim out all 8 posts (yes I said 8, because we ended up adding one on each side in the back) and then I get to poop it all up.  YAY!!!

Oh… I found a HUGE stained glass window in my stash that I totally for about and I think I have found a perfect spot for it.  But it’s a surprise…to you and the wifey.  ???? She will be thrilled.

This sucker is just about as tall as I am and wider than our front door.

I will for sure keep you all posted, because I know all of you are just DYING to hear of the progress.  ????  I finally feel like we are on the downward slope, though, thank God.
