Simple Winter Decor – My Seasonal Decorating Process

Simple Christmas DecorSimple Christmas Decor

We just got word that the builders will be starting The Woods and Ivy Cottage next week. Which means it won’t be long before we will be doing the finishing work on a new living space out in the woods.   Barns can be built really fast.  So, once the drywall is done, Deb and I will be taking over with the finishing work.   We will paint, install the kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, lighting, trim work, and flooring.  I cannot begin to tell you our excitement. In the meantime, Winter decor has made it’s appearance all over this little rental house we live in.  And I wanted to show you how I begin the process of decorating so that it isn’t so overwhelming.  And how I create simple Winter decor by adding trees pretty much everywhere.

My Seasonal Decorating Process

I first start by removing ALL of my decor from the side tables, cabinets, coffee table, etc.  And, I put it all away in to get it out of site.  Sometimes, I remove pictures and mirrors from the walls, too.  Especially if I want a brand new feel.  Now is the time to fill any nail holes and touch up paint, if need be.  If I want to get really crazy, I will move the furniture around, too.  But since I just gave this little rental re-fresh with new furniture placement, I left all of my large cabinets in place.

I have quite the collection of artificial Christmas trees.  So I start by placing the large trees where I want them and adding the lights.  And then place the table top trees on side tables, cabinet tops, etc.  And then I sprinkle the smaller trees everywhere else.

Simple Winter Decor

I don’t typically decorate with ornaments because I have a lot of collections.  ????  I feel like the house starts looking very cluttered.  It’s just a personal preference of mine.  Keeping everything simple for me feels more calming.  So I usually create a simple Winter Wonderland with bare trees.

I like adding a mix of green, flocked, and iced trees of all different varieties to my collections in my cabinets.   It’s simple and random.  And I also like to hang Winter wreaths on cabinets, mirrors, and pictures.  Aren’t these cute little paper mache and wood candles cute?  I have had these for YEARS.  In fact, I think I found these when I was pregnant with my first daughter over 30 years ago.

Thanks for stopping by…

I will be sharing glimpses of my Christmas decor here and there over the next several weeks.  So make sure you scroll down and subscribe to receive my posts via email so you don’t miss anything.
