Progress on The Woods and Ivy Cottage

Our projects at the Woods and Ivy Cottage are well underway.  We have been WAITING for this part of the process as it’s our absolute favorite thing… finishing work.  If you have missed our IG stories, you have been missing all of the fun!  I wanted to share what we are working on and what we are in the midst of… and the next fun project. Keep scrolling for some tips on building a home in the woods!

Hanging Lighting

I have mentioned before that the first thing we do when we start the finishing process of a house is to hang our lighting….   chandeliers to be exact.  Will they get dusty in the finishing process?  Yes!  BUT….  It gives us that feeling that SOMETHING is completed.  We absolutely can’t work on monotonous projects like painting, without seeing some other type of progress.  So we bounce around a bit.  Speaking of painting….

Paint and Paint Colors

The second thing we started was the long painting process.  We worked an entire day on it and then had to take a break.  Because again, neither of us can do monotonous jobs that feel never ending for days on end.  So we will go back to painting in the next day or two until it’s done.  I am painting the entire cottage in SW Pure White in a satin finish and all of the trim and doors SW white paint right off of the shelf (no mixing).  I used Pure White in the camper and LOVE it.  It has just a little hint of warmth to it which is my favorite.  If you want to learn a trick on picking out paint colors, I wrote a post about it years ago.

Faux Fireplace Brick

The most fun project EVER that has made a huge transformation was the faux fireplace brick.  I have an entire highlight over on Instagram, if you missed it.  We used old school brick paneling to make our fireplace in the cottage look like it was built with real brick.  Our fireplace insert is electric so heat won’t be an issue so this was a perfect solution.  And I will be sharing an entire post on that project soon.   It’s going to be a good one.

Next up….

After we finish the fireplace, we will return to painting.  Then we will attack the flooring that was delivered yesterday.  That will also be a huge monotonous job so I’m sure we will be breaking from that with the vertical bead board project in the kitchen!

So stay tuned for ALL OF THE FUN!
