New Home Build

Update on New Build and What’s Next

Things are moving right along.  If you haven’t been watching social media stories, you will be shocked.  And, I think the consensus is, even if you HAVE been watching over on social media, you are still shocked.  I had to go back in my Instagram archives because I truly didn’t believe it.  The speed that this happened was so fast that I didn’t have time to catch every move like I envisioned.  The very first wall went up on May 5.  I took this photo on May 20.  The framers have been working their little booties off.

They are coming tomorrow to finish up a few things and then they are done.

What’s Next???

Next up is the plumber, electrician, and the guy who is doing the stucco on our chimneys and the dormers.  Deb and I did our own walk thru for the electric and we got a bunch figured out.   We didn’t want to sound too stupey when we do the real one with the electrician, so we prepared ourselves a bit.

You already know there will be antique chandeliers everywhere.  I have figured myself out throughout the years.  When I go with anything other than vintage, I get really bored with it because styles come and go so fast.  I always feels like the antique ones are timeless and will always match my antique furniture.  We MAY be doing a few things different than any other home we have lived in.

There are three windows above the kitchen sink.  I want to find antique sconces to add above each window.  But, that may be hard.  So, they may have to be replicas.

We are still looking for….

At this moment, we believe that our antique store counter. that we are currently using in our kitchen here in the cottage, will be too small.  Our kitchen is around 23′ and this island is only 8.  So we are on the lookout for a 10-12′ store counter.  We also need a few more doors in different sizes, but am positive we will find them.  AND… I think several more antique ceiling lights.

I will be taking photos of the inside tomorrow after the framers leave so that I can share everything inside up to this point.

  • I am drooling over the huge antique store counter that I have imagined in my head for your kitchen! 😆 There’s a dealer called Junk Style Design that finds some amazing pieces. Linda and her Husband “Warehouse” are originally from Belmont Shores (in Southern CA) but are in Texas quite a bit in an adorable farmhouse they remodeled. Since I’m not on ig, I’m not sure exactly where they currently live full-time but I think it would be worth contacting them so see if they have anything or could find what uiut need. They are the nicest people!

    Love you guys!
