I have said a million times.  This move is so much easier than any move we have ever been through.  First off, the new house is right across the driveway.  So one load takes so little time.  Second, we aren’t on someone else’s time schedule.  When someone else tells you when you need to be out of your home, it’s always a rush.  And very, very stressful.  A normal move consists of a million boxes dumped into your new place all at once.  And then you live amongst boxes forever and feel so overwhelmed.  Everything we bring to the new house is unloaded and put away – right away.  Yesterday, we brought over one of my favorite antique cabinets.  And I threw together a cozy little corner in the living room.  So today, I want to share that.

A Cozy Corner in the Living Room

This antique cabinet has a great story.  If you haven’t read about it, you must.  It’s got a lot of great memories attached to it and has been with me for a long time.  And it happens to be one of my favorites that we have.  I wanted something in the living room to show some of my collections.  As I said above, we are moving little bits at a time, knowing that things may move in the future.  But, I want everything put away anyway.

This room is pretty big and keeping this cabinet at an angle made it more cozy.  This cabinet it perfect for my white ironstone collection that I have had for years.  I still pick pieces up here and there.  But all of these were found at thrift stores and garage sales and were fairly inexpensive.  I love how the white ironstone looks with this cabinet.  Again, it may change.  I have so many collections that would look great in here.

I added more wood items to the top of this cabinet starting with the wooden vase from my collection at Antique Farmhouse.  And the little dresser that I bought last summer that I don’t think I ever shared here.  I found it the same time we bought our antique store counter for the new kitchen.  I just love little drawer sets and this one even has a mirror.

Adding depth in your decor….

This is probably something that I have never talked about here or on social media.  I get asked a lot if I can teach people where I begin when I decorate a space.  It really is a trial and error type of thing.  But, if you can remember one thing, it may help.  And that is DEPTH.  Note that I add decor in front of other things because it adds depth which creates a cozier look.

I added my little wooden stool that I found at a garage sale years ago in front of this antique cabinet.  And on top of that is an old bucket that I found at a thrift store… that I filled with my tulipsThey are some of my favorites that I have had for years.  They look real and feel real.

Our ceilings are pretty tall so I added a few vintage baskets on the top of this cabinet, too.  I love how this little cozy corner in our living room turned out.  Once I got this done, I looked at Deb and said, “Oh my gosh.. it’s starting to look like our home.”  She reminded me that it is.  LOL

Stay tuned for more cozy corners like this in the new house.  And, check out us out on Instagram and TikTok as I share a lot over there in real time.
