Antique Finds

A Small Antique Haul this Week

You know us.. we love to stay home.  We pretty much order everything online, except for a few grocery items here and there.  But everything else is delivered.  And, I love it that way.  We, for sure, leave the house once a month when our cleaning lady is here and usually do any returns we have, stop by Trader Joe’s because we love that store.  Or we do some thrift and antique shopping.  Well, we left the house a few days back and stopped by a large thrift store.  The one we stopped at is one you really have to dig.  It’s actually one of my favorite kinds because there is a thrill to the hunt. Digging through packed booths looking for treasures is one of my favorite things to do.  I came home with a small antique haul this week and I wanted to share.

A Small Antique Haul this Week

I always tell you how much I enjoy sharing my antique hauls with you.  I think it’s fun seeing what other people find in their area and how much they paid.  We are in Ohio so I think we have a lot of great deals.  I hear from people in other parts of the country that they never see antique pieces.  And, if they do, the prices are outrageous.

It’s funny.. because every time we go antique shopping, my eyes are drawn to something different.  Sometimes, it’s my pottery collection.  Sometimes it’s crocks, which is another one of my collections.  This time, I kept seeing candle holders in every booth.  I have no clue why.  Maybe because I absolutely love these candles that I found on Amazon and have them all over our home.  It adds the right amount of ambiance to our rooms.

Vintage Brass Adjustable Candle Holder

I am actually obsessed with vintage adjustable candle holders.  And, I found this one for $9.. which is a great price.  I love how it looks here on this little table in the kitchen.

Here is a great place to find some like it!

Pair of Vintage Brass Candelabra Wall Sconce

I found this pair of wall sconces down on the bottom shelf of a booth that had tee shirts, and kid’s toys.  It was so random.  They are SO HEAVY and were $59 for the pair, which is a steal.  I fell in love with them the second I saw them and thought of a million places I could use them.  They originally came with crystals but I love them without.  I think I know where I want them but haven’t taken the time to get them hung.  Stay tuned!

Vintage Brass Bird Cage

I know this is SO RANDOM and it actually makes me laugh that I bought it. Do I have or want a bird?  No.  But this bird cage is so freaking cool. When we walked by it, I commented on it and said how it was very unique.  Deb loves birds so she thought it was really cool, too.  As we were walking out, it caught my eye again and Deb commented on it the second time.  Which means she wanted me to buy it.  It even came with a fake bird.  Ha!  And, for $40, I know I can find a great place for it in our home.

Where are you going to put that?

This is one of the questions that I get a lot when I talk about buying another antique.  Not from Deb.  She knows that if I buy it, I will always find a spot for it. I switch my decor around so much that I can always squeeze something else in or switch something out.  Plus, I love a great collection!  And, as you know, I have many.  So it’s always fun to add to those as well.

Don’t you have a full home decor room?

This is another question that I have gotten over on social media a few times.  And, yes… yes I do. Ha!   My home decor room is mostly filled with treasures that I have had for YEARS.  I still love the items and rotate them in and out of my decor quite frequently.  They are things that I don’t want to part with and always have plans for them in the future.  When I have something that I don’t want anymore, I usually ask the girls if they want it.  And one our of the four usually take me up on the offer.

  • Love love the bird cage! I have a few collections too and each time I’m out but also buy random things that catch my eye. If it makes me smile/happy, I buy it. I have McCoy flower pots, tin picnic baskets, syrup pitchers, etc etc. Going to a flea market/antique store/thrift store is my therapy. I can walk in and in a few minutes forget what I was worrying or stressing about. Love to see all your hauls and what you do with them. I’ve gotten inspiration from so many of your ideas ☺️. Thank you!

    • Oh thank you. And, I'm the same way. I can wander through thrift stores/flea markets and be in heaven. I LOVE McCoy flower pots and have a few myself.

  • Hi. Just discovered your site. Love it! I too am a "rotater." Otherwise I'd have a tough time justifying my little hauls. Recently, I found this art deco cabinet on Marketplace. I plan to give it a restoration that will bring it back (hopefully) to its original appearance. I didn't see an option to attach photo, but a British furniture restorer quoted me more than $2,800 for the job. I paid $20 for it.!
Can't wait to read more of your articles.

    • Sometimes you just need a different vibe, but you also can't get rid of your favorite pieces!! Wow, that is an amazing find. I hope it turns out as amazing as your are invisioning!
