New Home Build

Antique Wall Cabinets for the Kitchen

Did you hear we are building a house?  😂 It seems like everything I share has to do with that fact.  If you haven’t seen the layout of the house, I shared it awhile ago.  We knew we were going to have 2 pantries – see the doors hereAnd a giant island!   So, when I started planning the kitchen cabinets, I knew we didn’t need TONS of storage because of those facts.  I LOVE incorporating antique pieces every way that I can.  So I kept that in mind.

The wall that the stove is going to be on is going to have all lower cabinets.  And, then, of course, a range hood.  Our plans are for our framers to frame up a range hood and we will finish it with trim, etc.  Fancy it up, if you will.  😂  I have a few ideas in mind for that.  I was so confused as to what to put beside the range hood.  I thought… if I could just find two matching cabinets, how perfect would that be?

Antique Wall Cabinets for the Kitchen

What do you know… two matching cabinets popped up on the Marketplace that are the perfect size at almost 5′ tall.  That always happens.  I mention something aloud and it usually appears.  Ask and you shall receive really works.   They happened to be a right and a left…. meaning one was originally on the right side of something and one was on the left side.  And, I think they were once maybe china cabinets that set on the floor between a dining room and living room.  I’ve seen old homes with them.

They have leaded glass doors which will be perfect. I want to frost the glass.  We frosted glass in some doors at one of our old homes and loved it.  I will be stripping off the old finish because it is bubbly.  Deb is going to flip the doors around by switching the hinges because for some odd reason, they are the opposite of what we need them to be.  And two of the glass panes need replaced.

I paid a whopping $150 for both of them and think they will be perfect for what I want them for. …  which is to store all of our cooking items: spices, oils, vinegars, etc.  And hang them on each side of the large range hood.

What do you think?  Do you have the vision for these?  They will certainly go along with my woods and whites theme!  Stay tuned for the update!
