I shared that we bought this little garage for the woods a few weeks ago.  And, how we added a concrete path around it to the man door by using recycled concrete.  If you haven’t seen the recycled concrete post, you must.  We found the coolest concrete to use as a pad for the garage door.  We love how it turned out.  Our entire goal is to make every structure in the woods seem as it’s been there forever.  Using recycled items is one way we like to accomplish this task. So the next step in this little garage project was to do a simple garage landscape.  We visited a local nursery and picked out a few things that we love to landscape with.  This is actually one of Deb’s favorite parts of projects like this.  She LOVES landscaping.

Garage Landscaping

Our Design Thoughts

Since our little concrete path winded around a few trees, we wanted to accent the curve of it.  We thought small round boxwoods would do just that.  We also liked the idea of adding a cone shaped boxwood on each side of our little garage.  Boxwoods are perfect for our area because they don’t lose their leaves during the winter so we will have some live greenery to look at.  The ground is SO DRY right now that it took us ten minutes to dig every hole.  ????  I’m not even kidding.

We also lined the beds with rock from our hidden rock pile in the woods.  ????   We used some of them around our fire pit this past Spring and love how that turned out, too.  Our stash is getting low.. but we have a hidden brick pile, too.  So stay tuned for a project with those soon.

We LOVE hydrangeas and always like to include them into all of our landscaping projects.  We bought three strawberry sundaes to line the side of the garage.  These bloom white and gradually turn pink and then this beautiful burgundy color in the Fall.  We had these at our old house and loved them.  And, of course, we fell in love with a hydrangea tree.  It’s one of our faves.

We ended up adding mulch to our landscaping right now because we thought it would help hold in the moisture.  And protect our new little shrubs.

How will we water these the garage landscaping?

We don’t have a well quite yet, but hopefully soon. Landscape Lady told us to water them each twice a week with 5 gallons of water each time… UNTIL FROST.  In our area, that will be happening any time.  So it’s just a few weeks of watering them by getting several 5 gallon buckets full from Deb’s parent’s house which is right down the road.

Upcoming Projects

We are in the midst of putting up a few privacy fence panels behind this garage to close off the driveway that was there.  The fence will be perfect to hide things like the wheel barrel and our long ladders.  And, we will also have our compost pile back there.

We will putting up our antique street light in this area, too.  And building a little pergola type thing over the garage door just to add some interest.  I have a few styles PINNED HERE if you want to see what we have in mind.  While you are there, make sure to FOLLOW US on Pinterest, too.

I love the way this little garage is turning out and can’t wait to get these other projects done as well.  We will be working on the fence project today, which will also be shared soon here.  But, if you want sneak peeks, stay tuned to Instagram stories.

  • Just love it. You two are such hard workers and it shows. Really think your idea of adding the the Pergola or Trellis over the garage door will be awesome. I've been wanting to add that to our coastal home. Enjoying watching your progress with your house in the woods, it's great.

  • Everything looks beautiful so far. Have you thought about painting the little shutters on the windows of the garage black like the trim you added to the garage door?
