Recycled Concrete Walkway by Garage

Remember when I shared our new little garage that we had delivered at our woods?  Well…. you know how one project leads to another with Deb and I.  Once we get one thing accomplished, it sparks creativity for another one.  We can’t sit still for very long.  Our brains are way too active for sitting.  ????

The garage is where we will be storing our Polaris for now.  So, we knew we needed some type of a ramp for our garage door.  We started tossing around the idea of using recycled concrete for that area but how in the heck would we be able to find a huge piece like that.  Long, long story short.  We were out at some friends…  actually friends who bought our big house out in the woods.  And, they had a large piece of concrete that they removed to put in a bigger area of concrete.  She said we could have it if we could figure out how to move it.  I text Bulldozer Boy and told him our idea.  His response was, “I have two big slabs of concrete at my house that I don’t want.  I am right around the corner rom you.  Do you want me to bring them over?”   And, that was that.

Deb and I also brainstormed on what type of sidewalk to create over to the man door on the side of our little garage.  And, remember.  Our goal is to make everything look like it’s been there forever.

DIY Recycled Concrete Walkway by Garage

We decided that a recycled concrete walkway would be so cool.  We used old chunks of concrete at our last house to create pathways and to line our flower beds.  And, we loved the look.  So, we spread the word of what we were looking for and found some.  That’s the great thing about living in a small town.  Someone knows someone who has everything you are looking for.  ????

We loaded up several pieces of concrete (the sizes we could easily lift) and took them to the property.  We also had a friend who had a LARGE piece and a skid loader.  He loaded that up in our trailer for us.  And, wished us luck at getting it into place.  ????

We, of course, used our tried and true method to unload that beast.  Using a pry bar and two PVC pipes, we rolled it off and into place.  It went a lot smoother than we thought.  Because I am the unloader in a job like this, I displayed all of the concrete out on the ground.  And Deb put the puzzle pieces together, which is her job.  Using an extension cord to map out our design, different size levels, packing stone, and shovels to dig out any dirt that was too high for the concrete, we created a little winding path to our man door.

Is it perfect?  Of course not.

Is it easier to have concrete boy come and pour us a concrete pad in front of the garage door?  YES!  Is it easier to have him also pour us a sidewalk leading up to the man door.  YES!  But, we love the fact that this was practically free.  And, it looks like it has been there for a long time.

Upcoming Projects

Landscaping around our garage.  It’s actually done.  I just need to share here.  We are adding a small privacy fence around this garage for storage and a compost area.  And, we are going to be installing one of our antique street lamps close to this area.  So stay tuned for all of these fun things to come!
