Ideas for Decorating Your Home For Fall

I love decorating my home for Fall. The warm, rich earthy tones and plush textures blend so well with the Woods and Whites theme in our home. Transitioning your home from Summer to Fall may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some tips and tricks to help transform your home for the upcoming Fall months.

Decorating Your Home For Fall

1. Decorate One Room at a Time

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the idea of redecorating your entire home for Fall, decorate one room at a time. The saying goes that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so that is where I started. I began filling my kitchen with items that inspired the cozy look that I envision with Fall.

Once I had enough Fall items sprinkled into that first room, I let the vibe I created there begin to overflow into the room next to it, which in our case is the dining room. From the dining room, I began transitioning our living room. That is how I transformed our main living spaces without adding extra stress to our already busy days!

2. Change Decor to Warm, Earthy Tones

Our home is white with warm, rich wood tones. We try to keep everything very neutral and calming. That is why I love Fall decor, because it blends so well with what I already have in my home. If you are ready to switch color pallets for Fall, here are some accent colors to inspire you: Copper, Dark Autumn Gold, Light Old Gold, Fern Green, and Dark Avocado Green.

3. Add a Pumpkin

Adding a pumpkin to each room is one of the easiest ways to add a touch of Fall. I have a huge collection of artificial pumpkins that I have collected throughout the years, and when Fall rolls around I begin sprinkling them all over the place! You can line the steps inside our outside your home, fill a bowl with them, create a table centerpiece, set one on a stool, or prop one on the floor next to a cabinet.

4. Fall Throw Pillow

I change my throw pillow covers with the changing seasons. Like a pumpkin, it is a super quick change that makes an instant difference. This year, I added some amazingly soft, velvet pillows in our kitchen, and they are so good!

5. Add Autumn Leaves, Branches, and Wreaths

For Spring and Summer, I added a lot of faux florals this year. For Fall, I switched those out for off-white colored sunflowers. You can also fill your containers with Fall branches and leaves for a more subtle look. This year, I also added beige wreaths to our fridge and freezer in the kitchen. I used command strips which allows me to hang them anywhere without any damage.

6. Change Out Wall Art for Fall

Any time I find a really nice antique frame at a yard sale, I grab it. I take out whatever print was already in side and switch it out for seasonal digital prints. Digital prints on Etsy only cost a couple of dollars and you can print them yourself to fit whatever size frame you have.

We also have The Frame TV in our home, so we can change the artwork on our TV to Fall. This year, we also added a framed canvas art set to our living room. It features a neutral oak tree ring print that is perfect for Fall. We propped it on the shelf behind our couch and surrounded it with two pinecone faux candles for a full Fall look.

7. Drape Throw Blankets

As the weather gets cooler, we want all of the warm, cozy vibes. A textured throw blanket does just the trick. You can drape them down the back of the couch, on a blanket ladder, or on every chair. It is a great way to add depth and a touch of color. The best part is that on a cool evening you always have a warm blanket nearby.

8. Add Ambient Lighting

One of my least favorite parts of the changing seasons is that it will start getting darker earlier and earlier. That is why with Fall I will begin sprinkling in more ambient lighting into my home. A good way to do that is with candles, battery-powered accent lights, and small lamps. My favorite addition so far has been a wax LED pumpkin candle from Amazon that is just so amazing!

9. Display Seasonal Treats

I am not a big baker by any means, but when we think of Fall we think of all the seasonal treats that we all enjoy. A great way to bring this image to life is with artificial bakery items. I have faux cookies, cake, and a pie that I love to display in my home.

10. Tablescape

When we decorate for Fall, we also decorate for Thanksgiving and hosting. That gives us the opportunity to create a beautiful and full dining room table scape that we normally might skip over. I like to create a bold centerpiece on my dining room table for Fall, and you can also add a dinnerware set with Fall-inspired dishes, placemats, silverware, napkins, and drinkware that you leave out all season long. I also decorate our kitchen island with a main centerpiece as well as a full coffee table scape in our living room. If you don’t go big, a cohesive table scape makes an excellent visual central point for your room.

11. Fall Scents

The easiest way to add a Fall scent to your home is a great candle! Not only does it add a warm and inviting scent, but they can also be used as a decor item and to add a touch of light. Some great scents for Fall include pumpkin, amber, apples, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cedar.

12. Mantel Display

We basically have a fireplace in every room in our home. I love decorating our mantels for the different seasons. I typically add some sort of light, riser, and greenery for added height. The mantel adds a lot of height to your room, so don’t overlook this spot.

13. Change Bedding

If you want to carry your Fall style into the bedrooms, you can easily do this by changing out your comforter, adding a duvet to your current comforter, changing the pillow shams, or adding a nice textured blanket to the end of your bed.

14. Accent Rug

If you don’t want to change out your area rugs, you can layer a small accent rug on top of your current rug. You can also add a Fall-theme rug to your entryway for a touch of color or personality.

15. Front Porch

Don’t forget the entry point of your home. You can easily transform your front porch by adding or changing up planters around your door filled with a Fall shrub or branches. You can line the porch with pumpkins. Some lanterns also add a nice touch for the season. Don’t forget to change out your outdoor pillows for the season, if you have them.
