As you know, we have been working on organizing and decorating our bedroom. I’ve said this a million times, I know. But it’s been so much better for me focusing on putting together one room at a time. And, then taking each room and dividing it into sections. My ADD brain has been a lot more calm and a lot more creative. We started off with a new-to-us headboard that we made look like an antique. And, then we added a gorgeous warm-toned rug. I shared a little corner with a stained glass window yesterday, which turned out pretty cozy. And, today, I bring you… another post on the bedroom. We recently hung a leaded glass window over the bed and I just had to share.
We both love our rooms full. If you have followed us for awhile, you already know that. I like to get as much in a room as possible, as I find it very cozy. And, since I am a collector of vintage items, it isn’t too hard. I does become a bit difficult, in the coziness department, when I am dealing with a large room with high ceilings. Our bedroom is roughly 18′ x 22′ with 9′ ceilings.
One way that I have found to achieve the full cozy look is to hang stained glass or leaded windows from the ceiling. It creates depth and fills the void between the furniture and the blank ceiling area. (I shared how we hang windows in an old post.) Now, I’m not a “professional” design girl as in, I didn’t go to school for this. So, don’t come at me if I’m breaking rules. In MY design world, rules are meant to be broken. As, design is different for everyone.
In fact, my TikTok on this window was a bit controversial. Ha! I had some people absolutely LOVE this idea and some, not so much.
Deb and I love the 127 Yard Sales. And we try to attend every year. In fact, it is the highlight of our summer. Check out some of my past hauls that I shared. Anyway, 12-13 years ago we were on our last day of the 127 yard sales. A lot of times, people with a good size of farm ground will charge booth rent for people who want to sell, but don’t live directly on Highway 127. There is this little section that is set up like a flea market every year. And, every year we stop. We have found such great things at that little flea market type of thing.
I saw this leaded glass window leaning up against the back of an antique cabinet. It didn’t have a price tag. I asked he owner how much it was, thinking it was going to be way out of my price range. He said, “Well, there is some damage to it, so I will take $50.”
Deb was browsing elsewhere… And I think I was so stunned that I just stood and stared at him. Another shopper broke me out of my silence by saying, “You are only charging $50 for that?” I immediately said, “I will take it.”
We originally hung it vertically in a large door way in our big house out in the country which I have no pictures of. It worked perfect in the window right inside the back door at the house on Winchester. It then spent time in the rental above a seating area. I believe those ceilings were 11′ tall so it worked perfectly. Do you remember when we hung it in the cottage above a cabinet to separate that large open space? And now this $50 “damaged” leaded glass window is hanging above the bed. Which, by the way, the damage doesn’t bother me at all. I love it so much!
I have just a few more sections to work on in the bedroom. I’m actually hoping to share the fireplace mantel that I decorated a few days back soon. So, stay tuned for that. And then I will more than likely give an entire tour of this space at some point.
A cozy corner in the family room
For those of you who can’t get out to flea markets and yard sales, have you ever checked online for leaded glass windows? I check all of the time and always find such beautiful ones here…. and here. I rounded up a few that caught my eyes below. You can click on the pics for the links.

LOVE this window placement! And can you tell me/us where you got the hanging black/metal lamp in your bedroom? LOVE that also!
I have LOVED this piece everywhere that I’ve seen you display it over the years of following your decorating and homes. I LOVE HOW BIG your bedroom is; I live in a townhome, so not a terribly large space, but I am GLAD my bedroom is actually big enough to have a couple of cozy wing-back chairs, an electric Franklin fireplace, and a good reading lamp. A reading area in a bedroom is SO NICE to have, and, while not a lot of other people may actually enter your bedroom, it’s just NICE to have it PERFECT to suit yourselves.
I love that you always hang leaded glass and stained glass windows for decor. That is definitely your signature decor piece! I’ve always loved everything you do and you don’t care about design “rules”, I don’t either! Your bedroom is coming along beautifully! Can’t wait to see the fireplace side!
