We have been in our home two full years now, so this year we spent a lot of our time and energy adding our style and small personal touches to every space in our new-build home. We also did a lot of travelling, spending time with family, grieving and changing family dynamics, thrifting, and enjoying everything we have worked so hard to create. 2024 was an absolutely insane year, filled with lots of ups and downs, and we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for us.
I wanted to take a minute and recap everything we accomplished, made and built, in 2024. So, here is our 2024 year end review!
Last year (2023) was our first full year in our home, so we spent a lot of time getting moved in and situated. This year (2024), we really got to fine tune and personalize all of our spaces. We added, made changes, and added some more! There were times of max efficiency and other times when things got pushed to the side for a long while because of changing priorities and life. I know you can understand that!
We started the year by adding additional texture to our kitchen as part of our From Flat to That series. Click here to see a roundup of this series in 2023. After adding beadboard wallpaper and trim in the kitchen, we finished up the area by adding a peg rail that I was able to style. It adds a lot of interest to an area that would otherwise be wasted space.
February was a month of wallpapering. The floral wallpaper in our dining room was added in February. I put a lot of hours into this project, but it was 100% worth it! The warmth and texture it added is absolutely everything! A lot of the floral accents we have added to the house since were inspired by this wallpaper.
We also added the tin ceiling wallpaper to the entryway ceiling this month. We painted it the color, Bronzed Ochre, for a big impression when you first enter our home.
March was a continuation from the month before in adding texture to the dining room and entryway. We added a brick surrounding to our fireplace in the dining room and man was it a game changer. The combination of the wallpaper and the brick added so much texture and interest to this room.
We also added a runner to the stairs in our entryway during the month of March. See how we attached the runner here.
In April, we started prepping the entrance of our home for the upcoming warm weather. We love to spend the warmer months outside, and as the weather begins to change our projects all move outdoors. We added ferns (that ended up getting ginormous over the Summer) and prepped the space for what would come in the following month. See how it all started here.
I also switched out the chandeliers in our kitchen in April. Click here to read all about the transformation and where we found the prettiest antique chandeliers.
Our front porch area got a full makeover in May. We added brand new patio furniture with built in cushions. I was super nervous because it was a pricey set, but after a full Summer of use and hosting I can say they were 100% worth it.
The screened-in porch off of our master bedroom also received a makeover. See how we styled it here.
In June, we finally gave our upstairs guest bathroom the makeover that it deserved! It was still a blank canvas and really needed a vintage touch. See how we transformed this space with an antique shelf and vintage items. In June, I also discussed the products I had been using for my hair loss. Now that we are at the end of the year, I am finally to the point where I can wear my hair down and style it normally again!
We also did some more work to our vegetable garden by adding a concrete border using recycled concrete.
Outdoor projects were officially full swing in July, and we had landscaping completed around our driveway. We also added a sign to slow down delivery trucks flying down our driveway. The combination of the large boulders and the sign definitely did just that!
With the landscaping completed down the driveway, Deb was then able to install these antique lamp posts down our driveway in the month of August. This was always a vision for our driveway, so this project was a dream come true! We did eventually paint the posts black, as well, for a more neutral look.
In September, we added a very, very large antique piece to our master bedroom. We ran across a massive antique cabinet and had it shipped all the way from Texas. See all the details of this piece here. I love that it has shelves and cubbies for my shoes. This cabinet was originally from England and is from the 19th century.
I also started a few new collections this year, one of them being wooden canes. See some of my antique and vintage finds for the month of September when we were in the peak of thrifting season.
September was definitely a month of thrifting and furniture finds because we also came home with this antique roll-top desk. We had to move around some collections to fill this one, and I love everything about how it turned out. It was a great addition to our dining room.
The end of Summer and into Fall became a whirlwind when my mom got stick. After surgery and an extended hospital stay, my mom passed away in October. My dad being by himself really changed the dynamics of how our family runs because we have been helping him a lot. Anyone who has lost a parent probably understands the tasks that come after they are gone. Going through a loved ones things after they are gone is hard! It has been a lot, but I have also enjoyed the extra time I have been able to spend with my dad in the last few months of this year.
When we went to this year’s Springfield Ohio Extravaganza Flea Market, we came across two matching antique chandeliers! Yes, I said matching! These French Toleware Chandeliers are more of a statement piece with their size and detail. See the transformation here.
In November, we added an old shelf that we found at an estate sale to our master bathroom. It was a small addition, but because this is such a small space it was a big transformation. Read all about it here.
We finished out the year by completing one of the projects that had been hanging over our heads for awhile: the staircase wall molding in our entryway!
The staircase wall molding project was part of our From Flat To That series and we started it all the way back in the Spring!! As Summer and warm weather rolled around, our focused turned to the outdoor projects and this got pushed to the back burner. We are so happy to finally have it done. Read more about it and see all the finished photos here!
We also started and finished another project in this same series: the paneled walls in our master bathroom. Deb created this textured on the walls using regular boards that you can find at any box hardware store. Stay tuned for 2025 when we flip an old vanity piece for this space! I can’t wait!
This Fall, we also started an addition to our home. I don’t have that listed here, though, because I don’t think it is going to be completed in 2024. So, we will save that for next year! We currently have a handful of projects in the works that we can’t wait to share with you in 2025. We hope that you will continue to follow along with our shenanigans and projects in the next year. Without you, none of this would be possible.
