Well, here we are in the fall and winter months of 2024 and you know what that means – indoor projects!  We always have a running project list for our home and property. During the fall and winter months, Deb and I focus on all of the indoor projects that we want done and start marking them off of the list. We were in the mood for a quick project and decided to add paneled walls in the bathroom here on the main level. It is actually a continuance of our From Flat to That series that we started last year.

Paneled Walls in the Bathroom

When we built our home, we told our builder that we wanted him to finish the drywall and trim in every room. And we would add anything else at a later date. This was for two reasons. First off, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to dress the walls up with at the time. And, secondly, I knew adding texture to the walls would be great projects to share with you. All along I had lots of ideas in mind to add the texture:  wallpaper, paneled walls using different sized boards and trim, adding shiplap and bead board, etc. We have lived with flat walls for almost 2 years now and I cannot believe what a difference a little texture made.  It adds so much interest and drama and puts that little extra touch in each room.

This bathroom is even going to get a bigger makeover once we find the perfect antique piece for the vanity.  When you build, you have to have a vanity before you can close on your home. So, we chose the one we did and love it. But it isn’t 100% what we wanted. Everywhere we go, we keep our eyes peels and will find it one day, but in the mean time, we are continuing making this space unique.  The vision I had in my head for this bathroom is having paneled walls on the lower half and wallpaper on the top.  

Deb’s Part – The Lower Half

Deb started her part of this bathroom project a few days ago, which was the lower half, so I wanted to share how this came out.

NOTE: She did this knowing that she will be removing a few pieces of trim when we find our antique vanity that I mentioned above.

She created all of this texture on the paneled walls by using the following sizes of boards:  1×4, 1×3, and a door stop board for the top ledge.  The door stop is a board that is around 3/8″ x 1 1/4. You can buy them at any box hardware store.  But, you can also make the ledge as big or as small as you want.  I highly advise adding the ledge because it made a huge difference in the looks as it finished it off.  We painted the panels our trim color which is plain white right off the shelf in semi-gloss (no color added).  I then added a few wooden pegs for towels, bath brushes, etc. These add so much interest and added benefits to a space like this, as they are usable for both necessities and home decor.

Danelle’s Part – The Top Half

I have looked for wallpaper for a few rooms, including this bathroom, for MONTHS.  I wanted a specific look. It had to be in my woods and whites color scheme for sure. And, I wanted it to look like old fabric from years ago.  I happened to find the PERFECT wallpaper a few days back. I will share the links once I get it to make sure I love the quality, etc. but you can see a glimpse above. This particular pattern came in a few different color options, and this one happens to be the “gold” which is perfect for our space. It looks more like a light golden brown.

Stay tuned for the final result of this bathroom once the wallpaper is hung.  I, also, need to get you caught up on the entryway/stairway project, which I will try to do a little later this weekend.
