Are you loving these Trashed Tuesday pieces as much as I am?  If you have missed any of the previous projects, check them out.  They are all pretty much what we would have shared in our storefront if we still had it.  I am enjoying it because I see Deb completely in her element.  She absolutely loves being out in her workshop creating new things and repurposing old items.  She is so good at it, too.

Have I got a good one for you this week!   Here is our project!

Trashed Tuesday: Transform an Outdated Mirror

This mirror was given to us by one of our girls.  She wanted nothing to do with it.  Deb and I both saw the potential when she was ready to toss it out.  It came with our grandson’s dresser but she didn’t want to use it as a set. It sat out in her shed for awhile.. until she asked if we were interested in it.  So, we decided to transform this outdated mirror for this week’s piece.

As you can see, the top of this mirror before was so very plain.  Deb used a piece of scrap wood and cut out a piece in the same shape, just a bit smaller.   And then attached it with wood glue and pin nails.  Simply doing that made it already look a little more interesting and give it depth.  She then added an applique to the new piece she added.

We have an entire collection of appliques that we use regularly.  We actually used hundreds of these in our shop on so many different pieces.  The two smaller ones that she attached on the sides of the mirror are some we removed from our camper that we remodeled that she kept in her stash.  You can also see that she added a smaller piece of wood above those two to give the mirror more interest.

Painting the Mirror

We knew we wanted this mirror to look distressed.  So Deb painted it with a coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Raw Silk and then used a dark wax (Rugger brown) on it to make it look old.  And then gave it a quick sanding.

What do you think?  Do you love this Trashed Tuesday piece as much as I do?  And by the way, a certain someone wants the mirror back.  ????
