Tuesday’s Treasure – DIY Coffee Table or Bench

As I stated last week, our Tuesday project has changed names.  Three times to be exact.  It was first Trashed Tuesday, then Transformation Tuesday, and now Tuesday’s Treasure… which is what it will be.  Basically, Deb hangs out in the workshop on Tuesdays and creates a great project.  She makes some of the coolest things and shares them over on our second Instagram account.  So make sure you follow us there if you aren’t already.  If you missed any of them, you need to check them out.  One of my favorite projects of all time was the mirror she re-did.  It turned out spectacular!

Anyway, this past week, she saw a gorgeous coffee table/bench online and said it was what she wanted to make.  She recreated her own version of the coffee table.  So I wanted to show you what she came up with.  I am simply going to share the project and closeup photos here.  But, if you want to watch this project in real time to see her actually making it, I added it to a highlight.  I shared a reel of it as well.

Tuesday’s Treasure – DIY Coffee Table or Bench

As you can see by the photos, she made this coffee table/bench out of 2x12s.  She attached two pieces together to make the top a little wider.  And attached two together the other way to make the legs thicker.   She went one step further than the one she originally saw online, because she’s extra, and added a 2×6 to the bottom of the legs.  By the way, sometimes she’s so extra that she doesn’t like her pieces.  So, as always, she text me pictures while I was in the house asking my opinion on adding that little rectangle piece at the bottom to finish it off.  We both actually loved it.

As you can see, the coffee table/bench is distressed just perfectly.  She used an oscillating tool and a wood planer to take chunks out of this piece and really rough it up.  I love how it looks like it’s an older piece now.  She finished this piece off by staining it with special walnut and added provincial stain over that to warm it up a bit.  She did not seal this piece because she wants it to have water rings and get beat up a little more to make it look authentic.

I styled it here in the living room so you could see what it would look like as a coffee table.  And I cannot wait to use it in the new house.  As of right now, it is in our workout room, aka garage, holding our weights.  This will be perfect on the porch with flowers or to use as a bench when company comes over.

Of course, as always, I love how this little piece turned out.  She is so good at what she does.
