We Hung Curtains in the Kitchen

We moved here, in our new home, in the middle of December.  As you know, we are slowly getting things situated in each room.  We have our home decor room getting fuller by the day as we empty our storage unit.  I LOVE that room and am so grateful we have the extra space.  And, I’m so grateful that Deb got it all set up for me.   The family room is put together, as well as the kitchen and the laundry room.   We have 3 large windows above the sink and two large windows on the stove wall.  While I LOVE our trim work around the windows and doors, I felt the kitchen needed something else.  So… we hung curtains in the kitchen to give it a cozier feeling.  And it worked.

We Hung Curtains in the Kitchen

I know some of you are probably so against this idea of hanging curtains in the kitchen.  But I was craving a softer feeling around the windows.  They are the same linen textured curtains that we hung in the family room and bathroom.  I was thinking of maybe getting something different, but I guess why mess with a good thing.

These particular curtains come in several different colors and several lengths.  These are the off-white color.  They are airy and give just enough privacy to blur the inside of our home from the road.  However, we probably won’t ever close them.  They are also sold in a pair which is very rare these days.  Most curtains are sold separately and are very pricey.  The price of these curtains are excellent and they are great quality.

I wanted a very simple curtain rod in a brushed gold color.  And since we have the three big windows above the sink, we had to get multiple sizes.  We found these rods off of Amazon and couldn’t be happier with them.  They have a simple finial on the ends which I love.. and they come in 6 different colors.  They are EXCELLENT quality.  These curtain rods came with a tape measure, cheat sheet to hang them, a few extra screws in case of an emergency, and a pencil.  Basically, they come with everything you need to hang them.

A few people over on social media were adamant about me NOT hanging anything on the windows.  I love how the kitchen feels since we hung the curtains, and I believe they changed their minds after seeing them.  The curtains gave just the amount of coziness that I was trying to achieve in this space.  And, made everything seem softer.  Deb walked in after I hung them up and commented how nice they look. (Deb hangs the brackets on the wall and I actually hang the curtains.)

  • They look great - I bought some in the Linen color after you showed them the first time and hung them in the living room and they really do soften up the space - I love how the look in your kitchen

  • Everything looks sooo beautiful. You have quite the eye for decor and Deb is a master at doing all the finish work. I am in awe everytime the two of you do something new together! Congrats to both of you and happy for Ivy too. :-)

  • Love the softness the casual curtains brings into the space which has a warm and fuzzy vibe to it already. Love, love, love the colour palette. Can't say it enough. Just marvellous!

  • The curtains really do change the look. I didn’t realize how much of a difference they make. Also, the pendant lights are amazing over your gorgeous island. Oh! Love it all!!! Great work you two!!

    • I do not have any curtains in my home. I am loving that look and how it pulls everything together! I so miss my kitchen window from my last home. I have a great view onto land but I still miss my little window. Well done once again! I look forward to your ideas as you complete your new home.

  • Love it so much!!! I deleted my social media apps for lent and I’m so grateful for your blog and updates on your beautiful home!

  • I think, being in the country and close to a road and with some of those windows being close to ground level, I, too, would want curtains and I'd be pulling them shut at night. I live on the third floor of my apartment building and have no other buildings around me that are this high, so I've opted out of curtains over my balcony slider. These are another design element with which you will need to work, but the fabric looks lovely.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this post with the world! My kitchen is upstairs, and the sun just POURS through the tops of our windows in the mornings! While it is nice in the mornings, in the summers it is HOT! Our windows are 31” tall x 35” wide. I used 2 of the 18” long curtains on each window. They are perfect and beautiful! My husband said, “I love our new kitchen!” It’s amazing how such a small change made such a big difference! I’m so glad I found your post on Pinterest! Again, thank you for sharing your beautiful home with the world!
