An Elegant Christmas Corner of the Living Room

You guys might not know this, but I do all of the decorating… It’s my job in this household.  It’s not that Deb can’t.. I just think she likes my style and would rather me take care of it.  Looking back throughout the years and at all of our homes, this has always been my style. I may have had more color in my decor, but I’ve always had antiques, leaded glass windows, chandeliers and ruffles, peeling paint and rust.   I recently asked Deb to describe the feeling of my decor in only ONE word.   Homey?  Comfy?  She said, “Elegant.”   Her one word made me quite proud.  I’ve always loved an elegant home where I can still feel comfy and cozy.  And not worry I will break something.   Informal elegance… maybe?

Moving on….  ???? There is a very odd area in the living room here at the rental.  And, that is basically what we call it.  Odd.  This room is in the shape of a L.  And the one part of it is very small, so I crammed a lot of furniture in that spot.  ????   I may not be known for much, but I have always been known for my ability to get more furniture crammed into a room than anyone else.  ????  This rental is proving this fact.  Not only is there a lot of furniture in that spot, but there are two large trees.  ???? Hey.. my theme is a forrest of trees so it’s fine!

I wanted to show you this corner of the living room and how I decorated it for Christmas.

An Elegant Christmas Corner of the Living Room

I bought this HUGE white cabinet, that weighs approximately 16,456 pounds for $25 at an auction in my 20s.  I used it in the bedroom for storage.  After I moved to house number two, it was in the living room for awhile.  I mentioned to Deb that it was so big that I wanted it gone but didn’t want to sell it and regret it.  Within the next week, a friend who was building a house at the time said, “If you ever want to get rid of that big white cabinet in your living room, I would be interested in storing it for you.  We won’t have our kitchen cabinets done for awhile.”  Bye bye, cabinet.

Several years later, Deb and I opened up a store front and I thought of that huge white cabinet.  I called her and said, “Hey there… we will be needing that cabinet back because we bought a store front.”  She said, “Great… I was going to call you SOON because our cabinets are going to be going up.”  Funny how things work out, huh.  Anyways… it works perfect to fill this odd space in the rental and to hold my collection of yellow ware bowls.

Christmas Decor

I decided to once again display my vintage looking home made Santa ornaments on the big white cabinet.  I kind of like them there.

This large mirror gives the illusion that this tiny space is larger than it actually is.  So I hung an evergreen swag over the top.  This one is older but I found a similar one for a great price.  I displayed my artificial paper whites.. .which I normally leave up through the Spring, too.

The antique leaded glass window stayed because I need something for these 11′ ceilings in here.  I did share how we hang these windows in a post a few months back.  I also found some new windows that will give you the same illusion as this antique one, for so little cost.

I am still in love with my Bethlehem Lights Christmas tree from QVC.  It gives the nicest glow from the lights and is so easy to put up.

I hope this gave you some ideas for your own decor.  I always love seeing other people’s ideas!  Let me know what you think and follow us over on Instagram and Facebook.

I also love your style! Elegant, homey, comfy. "Elagomfy" Pronounced with just a little bit of French flair.

  • I saw your home featured in Country Sampler Farmhouse the Autumn 2019 magazine addition, & you mentioned in that article that this was your forever house. Noted here on your blog, you refer to this house as a rental. Anyway, I love what you both have done with your home!
