May Health Goal – Paleo Diet

OK… I know you are thinking to yourself…. “it’s almost June, old lady…. your are almost a month behind.”  BUT, I do have a little bit of an excuse.  We were in Mexico on May 1.  The first of every month, I have been giving you a monthly health goal and an update, but swimming in the pool and drinking margaritas were more exciting than updating my health goal.  But, in case you missed all the rest of the months, here they are:  January, February, March, April.  January tells why I started one goal per month. I am doing really well on all of the monthly health goals.  I’m telling you.  It’s so much easier focusing on ONE THING each month rather than changing a bunch of things at a time.

After my Everlywell blood test results in my April goals, I decided that I needed to follow a strict Paleo diet.   Therefore, that is what my May Health Goal is.

May Health Goal – Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet simply consists of meat, vegetables, fruit, and nuts and seeds.  It’s all the foods that the cavemen could hunt and gather.  I’m assuming it’s not for everyone.  I only say this because, once again, I am NOT A DOCTOR.   I don’t want any of you telling me that “eliminating certain groups of food can cause problems in some people.”  (I’ve heard that from a few people.)   BUT… If you read my results, I am highly reactive to gluten, grains, and green olives..  Therefore they need to be removed from mine.  So please do your own research.

Since the Paleo diet is such a simply way to eat because it’s just the basics, sometimes I need goodies… I mean, eating meat and vegetables for every meal gets a little boring.  So one has to be creative.   Different flours, including coconut and almond flour, are completely Paleo compliant so that means cookies, pancakes, etc, are all allowed.   I started a Pinterest Board with different Paleo recipes that I want to try.  I will be adding to that regularly.  Follow along if you like.  I would love it!

Speaking of Food Sensitivities and Mexico….

We stayed in an all inclusive resort which means we had our choice of everything we wanted at a buffet for every meal.  I ate Paleo the entire time.  I felt fabulous.  One evening, our crew made reservations at an Italian restaurant because having 3 meals in a restaurant setting was part of our package.  I looked over the menu and thought… since I’ve been doing so well with eating Paleo this entire trip, a little grain and gluten won’t hurt.  I ordered the vegetarian pizza with green olives.  It was absolutely delicious.

Within 15 minutes, my feet and hands started getting tingly.  By the time we got back to our room, my feet were so swollen, I could see the indents of my shoes.  My eyes were so swollen the next morning that it looked like I got punched in the nose.  This swelling lasted three entire days.  ????  I guess grains, gluten, and green olives WILL HURT me.  I will NEVER again do that.  I felt horrible.

Thrive Market

I recently found Thrive Market.  I briefly mentioned it before and thought I would update you on my thoughts.  Thrive is like a food market on steroids.  ???? I bring this up because they have EVERYTHING you can possibly think of and have it all separated by lots of different categories… Paleo, gluten free, organic, Keto, and even AIP… just to name a few.  With Thrive Market, you can try it for a month to see if you will like it, and then pay a yearly fee to belong.  I think of it like Amazon Prime.  I tried it for a month and LOVED IT.

Their prices are 25-50% off retail and it’s where we buy our absolute FAVORITE honey and our FAVORITE maple syrup, etc.  They ALWAYS have things you can try for free after you spend so much, too.  I love it, too, because we live in a small town.  The grocery stores don’t offer some of the odd flours that we need for recipes, etc.  Therefore, I have to drive 45 minutes to the town north of me to get some of the things.  So, my time and gas are saved with Thrive Market.

How are you doing on your monthly health goals?  I have heard from so many of you saying you are changing little bits at a time, too.  Please keep me posted.  I love hearing form you in the comments here, or Instagram and Facebook.

  • Hi Danelle and Deb! I’ve totally changed the way I eat and have lost a ton of weight! I mostly eat lots of dark green leafy salads with small amounts of chicken. Occasionally I eat some sort of meat with a vegetable. I had to totally cut out pasta so I could reach my goal. So far so good. I may check out Thrive market to expand what I can eat. Oh and I’ve also started walking every day. Y’all have a good day!

    • Wow ... good for you! Congrats on your weight loss. We have been eating lots of veggies and meats, too. I seem to do really well with Paleo.

  • I’ve tried the Keto. Not a good fit. I felt I needed to add fruits, nuts, and berries. I think Paleo may work for me. I want to be healthy. Love your videos. Y’all crack me up.

    • hahaha thank you. And I did Keto, also, and I gained weight. I missed fruits, too. Paleo works really well for my body.

  • So I’d like to give you credit for recently changing my diet and losing 17 pounds in a month...but then you’d have to take the blame for my Crohns diagnosis. I’m on an anti-inflammatory diet but it’s very similar to Paleo, which makes so much sense.
I have made several cookies, pastries, & brownies with the gluten free flours and all natural sweeteners. Be warned. Paleo as in fossilized turds...is what they were. ????
Haven’t found an edible one yet. The rest is all good though!!

    • hahahahaha We have been making delicious paleo pancakes. And I mean delicious. I am sharing the recipe soon.

  • Ok... by the way you two are such a riot, what a blessing to have that connection !!! But on another note... No this is not sponsored .. ..Lectins are the devil and a lot of food you think are healthy are actually killing you ... like tomatoes ... wow what ?!?! Exactly !!!! read on!! Love you two and your energy !!! If I could win a fun Dayan the life of ... it would be to hang with you two !!! You girls are a breath of funny air ???????? and I truly believe laughter heals all
    ❤️❤️!!!! God bless ????????????
