Stained Glass Window in the Bathroom for Privacy

Stained Glass Window in the Bathroom for PrivacyStained Glass Window in the Bathroom for Privacy

Have you seen all of the stained glass windows that we have hanging in different rooms?  This is what I have been waiting for since we built our home because we have several of them.  I had a few ideas for them up to this point.  But now that we are living here, I am getting even more ideas. We hung a few in the kitchen for privacy from the road.  We won’t need them in the summer because of the trees, but I love them.  And they will probably stay!  It adds so much interest.  We hung a few in the bedroom.  If you missed it, read about them here and here.  There is also a small one in the laundry room.  And yesterday, we hung a stained glass window in our bathroom for privacy purposes.  And, I LOVE it!

Stained Glass Window in the Bathroom for Privacy

Do you remember the huge leaded glass window in the dining room of our old house?  I used that to disguise our kitchen sink area from the dining room.  So that if we had a pile of dishes in the sink, they wouldn’t be so noticeable.  I haven’t found a spot for that one yet but I plan on doing the same thing.  I believe it was a door.  We bought it from one of our friends years ago.  It has been in several of our homes as a “room divider” over the years.  It’s one of my favorites. Anyway….

When we were in the planning stages of our home, we told our architect that we wanted HUGE windows in our home. And that we definitely wanted one in our bathroom.  When I saw the two large windows in that room, I fell in love with the idea. See our layout here.  Those two windows let in so much natural light and make me so happy.  They are in the vanity section only… not the shower and toilet area, which is a separate room.

There is one problem right now, though.

Our driveway is right outside of that window.  And we currently have no landscaping.  I have a lot of ideas for that… like planting some taller shrubs and maybe a hydrangea tree in front of them. It will disguise a lot.  But for now, we feel like we are in a fishbowl.  Ha!  Even when we are fully dressed, standing in the bathroom feels strange when a delivery man pulls in and sees us.

So, we obviously had the regular option of covering up the windows with curtains or blinds.  But you know that we are a bit extra and love drama in our home decor only.  We did hang curtains awhile ago and I love that they soften the look of the windows.  We keep them open during the day and closed at night.  But… while we were cleaning out the storage unit this week, we found a HUGE window that I sort of forgot about.

We had it hanging on our back pergola at the old house.  It was hung in a spot to disguise our hot tub.  Well.. I believe it is over 5′ tall and 3′ wide.  And, we bought it at the same time that we bought the ones in our kitchen.  They all match.  So, I had this idea to hang it sideways inside the bathroom windows for privacy.

And it turned out PERFECT for this situation.  The window disguises us in front of the vanity.  It still lets in light to that room and Ivy can still see out.  it is her favorite place to sit and watch the world go by.  That and one of the kitchen windows.  And there is enough room on each side that we can peek around it to see who is here.

What do you think?  Do you like this idea?

I will be sharing this entire bathroom and the decor soon.  If you missed our shower doors, I shared them here.  They are the prettiest shower doors if I do say so myself.
