Deb and I have our little traditions that we do every year. One of those traditions is shopping the Springfield Flea Market Extravaganza in Springfield, Ohio. They hold flea markets every month at the Clark Country Fairground and I believe most everything is inside the buildings. However, in May and September, they hold the Extravaganza, which means over 2,000 vendors will be set up inside and out. It is THE MOST FUN EVER! We have been going regularly for years missing it here and there due to different things. But we have the funnest memories. Today, I thought I would share what we will be looking for at the Springfield Flea Market this year.
We missed the spring Extravaganza last year because it was held the weekend we left for Alaska. But we made the fall show. I love sharing items we have found in the past at the flea markets. Last fall, I made a list of things we would be looking for and then shared our entire antique haul once we got home. Check out those posts. We found some great items. Funny… I was looking at my list from last fall and there are still a few things on that list that are transferred to this year’s list. Because finding the right items for your home take time and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Some of last year’s finds included the urns on our front porch and the ones beside our garage doors. That was something that we had on the list and to be honest, I was shocked we found them. It was more toward the end of the day. This guy had two HUGE sets of urns. He said they were in his storage barn for over 10 years. We wanted antique ones, but they look like they are older than 10 years. Both sets match our style and we are so glad we found them.
We have found several pieces for my Majolica wear collection and for my crock collection. When we go to flea markets, I don’t have any collection in mind. It’s more like I have a price in mind for my pieces to add to my collections. Because lets face it, you can find old crocks everywhere. Depending on the prices, I will buy them. So my eyes are always peeled for anything to add which includes yellow ware bowls, crocks, antique spongeware, white ironstone, etc.
Any time I show our garden area, I get lots of questions on the copper wind spinner that we have in the huge urn in the middle of the vegetable garden. We found that last year at the flea market and LOVE it so much. Make sure to read about it in last year’s finds post because it has a great story. I wouldn’t mind finding another one similar for a different place in our yard.
Like I said above, this year, we will be looking for some of the same things on the list as last year. We got to cross some of the items off of the list but added a few more. Do you remember when we switched out the kitchen lights for antique chandeliers? Well, they were from our bedroom. So, they are on the list. I haven’t shared much recently about our guest rooms, but they will be getting spruced up soon, too. The one has a headboard that we found during the 127 yard sales last year, but the other doesn’t have one.
There was something else on the list that came in and left my noggin this morning. So I will be adding that once I remember. Ha!
Stay tuned to social media stories if you want to see us in real time shopping the flea market. I will always share everything we find this year at the Springfield Extravaganza here in the space, as well. Now, let’s hope it isn’t pouring down rain the entire time. The forecast doesn’t look too great, but we are making the best of it.
