We are in full Christmas mode here in our home getting ready for the magazine shoot in a few weeks.  I have added lots of small trees here and there to get a good start on this year’s decor.  The bigger trees will be coming out soon with all of the twinkle lights, etc. I was in the mood to style something for Christmas last night, so I chose our coffee table.  I get asked a lot about styling certain surfaces and this was one of them that someone mentioned last week.  So, I thought I would share 3 tips to styling a coffee table today.

3 Tips to Styling a Coffee Table

Tip 1: Candles – real or battery operated

I add a candle to almost every space, so it makes sense to have one here on the coffee table.  It not only gives you ambiance at night while you are relaxing, but it makes it extra cozy.  I love real candles for the smell, but for less hassle, I use the battery operated ones a lot.  I have my favorite tapers and and my favorite pillar battery operated candles that look so realistic, I fool a lot of people. This one happens to be setting on my all-time favorite candlestick that I made.

See how I made this candlestick here.

Tip 2:  Place a saucer or bowl under a tree or plant

I love realistic looking house plants and realistic Christmas trees. These Christmas trees happen to be new to me this year and I love them. They come in a set of three are all different sizes. By adding a saucer under your plant or tree, they appear more realistic.  So it’s what I do.

Tip 3:  Raise a coffee table book with a book stand

I love home decor books and think they are such great things to add to your coffee table decor.  You have no clue how many times I pick them up and browse through them for inspiration.  I love this vintage looking wooden book stand that I got and love how it highlights one specific book.  And, it also adds height to your coffee table.  Turn one of the books to a pretty page and it almost becomes a “picture” for your coffee table.
